Foxtrot is where Genesis began to pull all of its varied inspirations into a cohesive sound – which doesn't necessarily mean that the album is streamlined, for this is a group that always was grandiose even when they were cohesive, or even when they rocked, which they truly do for the first time here…

"Foxtrot" is the 4th studio album by the English progressive rock band Genesis, released on 6 October 1972 on Charisma Records. It features their longest recorded song, the 23-minute track "Supper's Ready". The album was recorded following the tour in support of their previous album, "Nursery Cryme" (1971), which saw them gain popularity, including a well-received slot at the Great Western Express Festival, Lincolnshire in May 1972. The album was written over the summer of 1972 and combined songs that had already been performed live with new material worked out in jam sessions. Recording began in August with John Anthony, but sessions were prone to tension and disagreements. "Foxtrot" was the 1st Genesis album to chart in the UK, reaching #12, and received largely positive reviews. It went to #1 in Italy, their first album reaching #1 globally. A non-album single "Happy The Man" was released at the same time.

Foxtrot is where Genesis began to pull all of its varied inspirations into a cohesive sound - which doesn't necessarily mean that the album is streamlined, for this is a group that always was grandiose even when they were cohesive, or even when they rocked, which they truly do for the first time here. Indeed, the startling thing about the opening "Watcher of the Skies" is that it's the first time that Genesis attacked like a rock band, playing with a visceral power. There's might and majesty here, and it, along with "Get 'Em Out by Friday," is the truest sign that Genesis has grown muscle without abandoning the whimsy. Certainly, they've rarely sounded as fantastical or odd as they do on the epic 22-minute closer "Supper's Ready," a nearly side-long suite that remains one of the group's signature moments…

After the successful piano-orchestral tributes Play Me My Song (2013) and Here It Comes Again (2020), also appreciated by some original members of Genesis, keyboardist and composer Francesco Gazzara returns to face the prog repertoire of the early 70s of the legendary English band dedicating themselves to entire historical albums of the group. The first, whose 50th anniversary will fall in 2022, is Foxtrot: in the new version of Gazzara Plays Genesis (digital release on the IRMA records label) to the songs from the original tracklist already present in the first two tributes - "Watcher Of The Skies", "Time Table" and the entire "Supper's Ready" suite preceded by "Horizons" - now also "Get'Em Out By Friday" and "Can-Utility And The Coastliners" are added in two new arrangements with the usual acoustic sounds and Gazzara vintage (piano and Hammond organ).

The 7CD/6DVD box set includes newly remixed versions of the albums Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The band's 1969 debut album, From Genesis to Revelation, was excluded because of the band losing the rights to it. The fifth pair of discs includes B-side songs, 3 rare songs from BBC Sessions in 1970 and the never-before-released Genesis Plays Jackson soundtrack. Each bonus DVD features audio versions of the albums in 5.1 surround sound, as well as videos from each album's corresponding tour, new interviews, and photo galleries.

Genesis' second double live LP set in less than four years was originally a kind of a hybrid work, and has appeared in several different editions. There was confusion from the start because, despite its title, Three Sides Live in its British version, as Charisma GE 2002, had four concert sides. The U.S. version, which determined the title, was made up of ten live cuts recorded on-stage in Germany in 1981, with Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson in the group's lineup, doing the leaner, more pop-oriented repertory that constituted the group's sound by the early '80s, off of the albums Abacab and Duke. The resulting album offered lean, crisp, and generally bracing accounts of the group's then-current sound - a mix of pop/rock highlighted by some prodigious musicianship - and a four-minute glimpse of its progressive rock past in the guise of the "In the Cage Medley," containing "Cinema Show" from Selling England by the Pound…

Genesis were an English Rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey in 1967. The most commercially successful and longest-lasting line-up consisted of keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins. Significant former members were guitarist Steve Hackett and original lead singer Peter Gabriel. The band underwent many changes in musical style over its career, from folk music to progressive rock in the 1970s, before moving towards pop at the end of the decade. They have sold 21.5 million RIAA-certified albums in the United States and their worldwide sales are estimated to be between 100 million and 150 million. All of the group's studio work since signing to Charisma has been remastered and re-released in 2007 as SACD, except their debut album (due the copyright issue).
