Jean Genet set an example for other self-performers like James Dean, Joe Orton and Andy Warhol to follow. His real life, like those of his successors, emerging as by far the most compelling work of art he produced. Like those other iconic artists, Jean Genet is Jean Genet's consummate creation, and finding the boundary between the day-to-day realities of life and his creative existence is a bit like exploring a Mobius Strip.

Two prisoners in complete isolation, separated by the thick brick walls, and desperately in need of human contact, devise a most unusual kind of communication.

In a French village, Manou is an Italian logger, virile, with a broad laugh. He can't say no to women's sexual invitations, and jealous villagers blame him for recent fires and a flood. He is innocent; the culprit is "Mademoiselle," town schoolmarm, a recent arrival admired by all, but sexually repressed and obsessed with Manou. She sets the first fire accidentally and throbs watching a shirtless Manou perform heroics. Subsequent catastrophes are no accident and express her mad passion for him. Also, after befriending Manou's son, she turns on the lad, making him miserable and raising his suspicions. Her designs, Manou's frank innocence, and the town's xenophobia mix explosively.

The Maids is a 1974 film version of the play by French absurdist writer Jean Genet. Solange (Glenda Jackson) and Claire (Susannah York) are two sisters who work as servants for a strict Madame (Vivian Merchant). When Madame and Monsieur (Mark Burns) leave the house, the two women enact dramatic role playing games. To get out their sexual frustrations against their boss and each other, they alternate the parts of master and servant. They both love and hate the Madame passionately enough to plot her murder. During a particularly intense game of play, Claire accidentally drinks the poison that was meant for the Madame. The Maids is part of producer Ely Landau's American Film Theatre Series, which ran in select theaters from 1973-1975. In 2003, all 14 films in the series were given a wide release on home video from Kino International.

Comment approcher le mystère Étienne Daho, figure aussi célèbre que secrète, qui a traversé, très vite au premier rang, plus de trente ans de pop française ? En dépit de son influence, de sa notoriété, de ses succès (quatre disques d'or, six de platine), il a su se préserver d’une forme d’exhibition qui le répugne. Ses paroles et musiques ciselées, éminemment personnelles, sont là pour raconter ce qu'il est. Alors que son double album best of, L'homme qui marche, est attendu le 6 novembre, Antoine Carlier, qui a notamment réalisé le clip de "En surface", lui consacre un portrait élégant et pudique, à son image.

Réalisé par Isabelle Clarke et Daniel Costelle, sur une idée de Patrick Buisson, Amour et sexe sous l'Occupation interroge le mystère brûlant des relations intimes, hétérosexuelles et homosexuelles, en temps de guerre ; et explore ces années de chaos où la proximité avec la mort a renforcé l'aspiration au bonheur individuel, au plaisir et à la transgression. Juillet 1940 : les Allemands s'installent en maîtres dans la France vaincue. Les soldats allemands impressionnent avec leur puissance et leur aura de vainqueur. L'opération séduction bat son plein. Soucieux d'encadrer les débordements, l'état-major de la Wechmacht réquisitionne les maisons-closes. Les bordels les plus chics deviennent des officines du marché noir gérées par les profiteurs de guerre…
