Sassy and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas had been cooking up Gershwin evenings for eight years prior to this live performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, so singer and conductor had this act together for a long time. Judging from Leslie Gourse's biography Sassy, Tilson Thomas apparently worshiped Vaughan and let her have totally free rein in their collaborations. As a result, this is a swooning, swooping, hooting, heavily vibrating diva trip, one of the most overindulgent recordings Sassy ever made…

I guess there are some LITTLE FEAT purists who aren't into this album… Their loss, really. I think this only solo album he made is his best, most cohesive album, packed with heartfelt (and heartbreaking) songs such as "20 Million Things To Do" "Find A River" a fine rendition of "Can't Stand The Rain" (which blows Tina Turner's version away) and the irresistible Mexican-flavored "Cheek To Cheek", with a beautiful, full-on mariachi band backing Lowell up on some of his most soaring vocal work. He had such a great voice and such an infectious sense of fun and humor, all of which comes through loud and clear on this record, with great song after great song. The only bogus tune on it is "Himmler's Ring," but even it sounds easy on the ears. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED… a little-known late-'70s gem that was recorded shortly before Lowell George's untimely death.

The great musical border crosser of the twentieth century, George Gershwin excelled in the fields of concert music and popular song alike. The son of Jewish immigrants from Russia, he was born Jacob Gershvin in Brooklyn on September 26, 1898. His father ran a great variety of small businesses, and George, in the words of the New Grove Dictionary of Music, "excelled at street sports." He also studied the piano and was introduced to the European classics by his teacher, Charles Hambitzer…

This brilliantly devised CD from Gerard McChrystal is a deeply personal album; at times mystical, the music is always beautiful and captivating. Indeed 'Aria' has similar qualities to Jan Gabarek's 'Officium' (which sold 1.4 million copies) and will appeal to this fan-base. Featuring soprano and alto saxophone with a colourful array of different ensemble accompaniments — string orchestra, choir, guitar, piano, solo, string quartet and electronics. Baroque music blends seamlessly with contemporary; Handel resolves into Michael Nyman, Debussy's Syrinx morphs into Ravel's Piece en forme de habanera. All the tracks lead to the next by key or by starting and ending on the same note. Other works include Philip Glass Façades, Faure Les Berceaux, Bozza Aria, as well as original works by Billy Cowie, Karen Tanaka, Andy Scott and Michael McGlynn (from the vocal group Anúna who featured in Riverdance). Accompanying Gerard on this album are some of the UK's finest classical musicians including the Smith Quartet and the No. 1 best-selling classical artist, guitarist Craig Ogden. Gerard McChrystal is a multi-award winning saxophonist who has performed as a soloist in over 30 countries with many of the World's leading orchestras and ensembles.

While the City Sleeps… is a 1986 studio album by George Benson, released on Warner Bros. Records. It features musicians like Paulinho da Costa, Preston Glass, Paul Jackson, Jr., Marcus Miller and Narada Michael Walden (as drummer and producer), alongside young talents of the time like Kenny G, Randy Jackson and Kashif. Although it does not have any instrumental tracks, Benson's guitar playing is somewhat in the headlight in songs like "Love Is Here Tonight", "Teaser" and "Too Many Times". The most successful single of the album, "Kisses in the Moonlight", is still frequently played by Benson at live performances and is present on many of his compilation albums.

"Ice on Fire", released in November 1985, is the nineteenth official album release for Elton John. Recorded at Sol Studios, it was his first album since 1976' "Blue Moves" produced by his original long-time producer, Gus Dudgeon, who was responsible for John's success in that timespan, but it was met with little praise, and only reached #48 on the US charts, although it reached #3 in the UK. George Michael, then of Wham!, appears on two tracks on the album: "Nikita" and "Wrap Her Up".

Handel’s opera 'Alessandro', first performed at the King’s Theatre, Haymarket in London on 5 May 1726, was one of the composer’s most successful works for the stage. This opera displays Handel at the pinnacle of his career and enjoyed repeated performances over a period of several years.
