Heavy Metal

Portrait is a metal band from the southern parts of Sweden, founded in 2006 by guitarist Christian Lindell and drummer Anders Persson. After playing together in different irrelevant extreme metal bands since they were about 12 years of age, and after in one of these constellations rehearsing a cover of the Running Wild classic “Black Demon”, the two came to the conclusion that what they really wanted to do was to play that same kind of timeless heavy metal, being the most elevated form of music there ever was.

The music of the Vertical Squirrels is group-improvised, live in the moment, and draws on a potent mixture of free jazz and post rock sensibilities with nods to Indian ragas, jazz-inflected minimalism, Zappa-esque bouts of sonic anarchy, and German rock music from the 1970s.

Joshua Redman - Compass (2009)  Music

Genre: Jazz, Post-Bop | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Nonesuch Records (7559-79923-0)

Joshua Redman's 2007 album Back East rightfully drew critical comparisons to Sonny Rollins' legendary trio date Way Out West, given everything from the mirror image implication in the title to the manner in which Redman offered the material on the set. The presence of Rollins looms large over Compass as well. Once more, Redman explores a piano-less trio, though there are some quartet and quintet numbers here. Redman is accompanied by longtime friends and collaborators, including drummers Brian Blade and Gregory Hutchinson, and bassists Larry Grenadier and Reuben Rogers. The material is with one exception - a compelling reworking of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (here known simply as "Moonlight") - all composed by either Redman or the group…

EAC Rip | FLAC (tracks+.cue+log) - 2,33 GB | MP3 CBR 320 kbps (LAME 3.93) - 916 MB | Covers - 271 MB
Genre: Progressive Rock | RAR 3% Rec. | Label: Musea Parallele, Cyclops, Gentle Art of Music

German band Frequency Drift creates atmospheric, melodic and yet challenging music which they call Cinematic Progressive Rock. Published on The Musea Parallele label, "Personal Effect - Part One" (2008) is a concept-album set in a dystopian future. It focuses on the two main characters, and each has its own musical theme. The album is mainly influenced by movies or television series like "Ghost In The Shell", "Blade Runner" or "Cloverfield". Musically, it can be compared with the likes of Marillion's "Brave" or Sylvan's "Posthumous Silence", if these two bands had a female singer. The story is told through the songs, though not in a chronological order. The booklet contains a storyboard-like picture for each song that will help the listener understand the story.

Style: Electronic, Synthpop, Darkwave, Witch House| Label: Alien Body Music

For his sixth album as Pictureplane, Travis Egedy owns the identity that's been his to claim all along: Degenerate. Via music, painting, fashion, and DIY events that combine all three, he's spent a decade investigating the esoteric, embracing the paranormal, and otherwise riding for the lunatic fringe. Now, Degenerate finds our anti-hero standing tall on the periphery of polite society, addressing his fellow outsiders over a booming soundtrack that merges electronic body music, industrial hip-hop, gauzy '90s New Age, and gothic darkwave. If 2015's Technomancer confronted the ways our lives are merging with external technological forces, this album moves inward, examining how pain can cause the soul to either atrophy or—in Egedy's case—thrive.
