Benny Goodman was the first celebrated bandleader of the Swing Era, dubbed "The King of Swing," his popular emergence marking the beginning of the era. He was an accomplished clarinetist whose distinctive playing gave an identity both to his big band and to the smaller units he led simultaneously. The most popular figure of the first few years of the Swing Era, he continued to perform until his death 50 years later. Goodman was the son of Russian immigrants David Goodman, a tailor, and Dora Rezinsky Goodman. He first began taking clarinet lessons at ten at a synagogue, after which he joined the band at Hull House, a settlement home.

Scott Walker was an American-born British singer-songwriter, composer and record producer. He is noted for his distinctive baritone voice and for the unorthodox career path which has taken him from 1960s pop icon to 21st century experimental musician. Originally coming to fame in the mid-1960s singing orchestral pop ballads as the frontman of The Walker Brothers, Walker went on to a solo career, with a series of acclaimed albums, balancing a light entertainment/MOR ballad approach with increasing artistic innovations in arrangement and writing perspective. This Hi-Res collection features his five albums: Scott, 2, 3, 4 and 'Til the Band Comes In.

Born in the Northern Louisiana Town of Ferriday in 1935, Jerry Lee Lewis grew up listening to a variety of music; The Louisiana Hayride and Grand Ol' Opry broadcasts, 78 rpm recordings of country singers, and the inspired gospel music of the Assembly of God Church. He also spent hours hiding behind the bar at Haney's Big House, soaking up the sounds of blues men like, then 18 year old B.B. King.
His parents both loved country music, and soon young Jerry Lee picked up on it too. At his aunt's house, Jerry would play on the piano and when his parents heard him, they knew he was naturally gifted. They even mortgaged their home to buy him his own piano when Jerry was 8………

Now That’s What I Call Music will continue their Yearbook ‘Vault’ series next month with 4CD and 3LP vinyl editions of Now Yearbook Vault ’84 which pulls together ‘lesser compiled’ tracks from what is SDE’s favourite year in pop. The 4CD sets (deluxe hardcover book with 28-page track-by-track guide and standard editions) feature 80 tracks, while the 3LP version pressed on blue vinyl 45 songs. The full tracklistings can be found below, but feature plenty of familiar acts with for some less familiar singles. Artists include Heaven 17, ABC, Soft Cell, Culture Club, Level 42, Blancmange, Hazell Dean, Divine, Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Malcolm McLaren, Sparks, The Associates, Go-Gos, Donna Summer, Bon Jovi and many more.
