The debut of Glass Harp is undeniably their strongest work, with a more unified sound and a more polished feel overall than the other records. The group's strongest songs – "Changes," "Can You See Me," "Look in the Sky" – appear here, much of it in the vein of Cream and Jimi Hendrix. Gentle "Black Horse" is a nice touch, and the group is not pulling apart so much on the first record. Keaggy is an amazing guitarist with innovative playing techniques and an ear for texture and tone color, while Sferra stands out as the strongest writer of the group. For any fan of late-'60s classic rock, this will be an excellent addition to your collection.

This show was recorded at Cleveland's Beachland Ballroom on November 1, 2008, where Glass Harp headlined a benefit concert for Roots of American Music, an organization dedicated to the preservation, performance and education about traditional American music in our schools. This CD finally captures the raw, improvisational energy and spur-of-the-moment creativity that has defined Glass Harp for decades, but until now has been heard only in a live setting and in the memories of the people who saw it.

Glass Harp, the legendary Ohio trio, made up of Phil Keaggy, John Sferra and Daniel Pecchio, continues to find ways to push the musical envelope of their power trio/jam band/prog rock genre. Building off the success of their double live CD "Strings Attached," Glass Harp has released "Hourglass." The 16-song studio CD is a tasty musical stew that feeds the soul.

There is reason that the term sophomore effort has slipped into cliché, and this release is a prime example of it. This is an example of a band trying really hard, but pulling apart in the process; each member competes for the most attention the whole way through. Phil Keaggy's conversion to Christianity doesn't help the recording either; there is a solid rift here between the religious songs and the non-religious songs.
