The quartet is expanded with strings, adding wings to the music and helping it lift off the ground in a personal, highly engaging manner.

Afro-Cuban Jazz is a combination of jazz improvising and rhythms from Cuba and Africa; it is also known as Latin jazz. However, the true birth of Afro-Cuban jazz can be traced to trumpeter-arranger Mario Bauza. Bauza introduced trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie to the masterful Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo and also persuaded Latin bandleader Machito to use jazz soloists. Of all the post-swing styles, Latin Jazz has been the most consistently popular and it is easy to see why. The emphasis on percussion and Cuban rhythms make the style quite danceable and accessible.

I'm not surprised that I've never heard of vocalist, guitarist, composer, and producer Michael Schinkel or his band, Eternal Flame. Mostly known in Germany and the larger European continent, the band has not released an album since 2002's King Of The King. Encouraged by fans, Schinkel began working on a new album in 2012. The result is Smoke On The Mountain, which features on vocals, besides Schinkel himself, Mark Boals (ex Yngwie Malmsteen and Ring of Fire) and Goran Edman (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen and John Norum).

Heartwind - Higher And Higher (2018) Music

Hailing from Sweden, Heartwind is the creation of two musicians and long time friends, guitarist Goran Engvall (ex-Hitworks) and keyboard player Mikael Rosengren (Constancia, Token, Scudiero). After crafting a bevy of songs for a debut album, the duo needed to round out the band with some additional players. They drafted several well-known Swedes, including drummer Peter Svensson (Constancia, Faith) and vocalist German Pascual (Narnia, Essence of Sorrow, et al). Pascual, in turn, got musical mates guitarist Martin Hall (German Pascual band) and bass player Germain Leth (The Poodles, Watchmen) to round out the band. With no less than three labels having interest in the band, Heartwind signed to Germany's AOR Heaven for the release of Higher And Higher.

Swedish band Oddjob have been together since 2002, ploughing a melodic and groove-centric furrow built on the electric jazz-fusion of the 1970s, and staying the right side of "ambient" thanks to the brio and creativity which they bring to the music. On Sumo—their fourth album and ACT debut—the band have widened their sights to include funk, rare groove, chill-out and late 1960s psychedelic rock. It's a sonorous and playful mixture which is practically guaranteed to raise the listener's spirits.

Not the most optimistic title for pressing times, but the music sees Fire! tracking new paths and reaching new levels of excellence, still honoring their 12 year old vow of presenting a fresh approach to improvised music. Their debut album, You Liked Me Five Minutes Ago, was released in 2009 to wide international acclaim. “The basic strategy of pairing the expressive energy of free jazz with a sturdy sense of groove has yielded something potent and self-contained” (New York Times). Between this and Defeat there´s been five albums, including collaborations with Jim O´Rourke (Unreleased?, 2011) and Oren Ambarchi (In The Mouth A Hand, 2012).
