The voice and songwriting talents of George Jackson have graced four previous albums released by Kent. One of the finest writers to emerge from Southern Soul he created hits for Candi Staton, Wilson Pickett and the Osmonds and this collection shines the light on his earliest work, as a staff writer at Memphis label Goldwax, working alongside his friend and staff producer Dan Greer.

Throughout the majority of her time as vocalist and frontperson for D.C. art punk band Priests, Katie Alice Greer was also working on far more experimental solo material. When her solo tracks, one-off collaborations with other artists, or EP releases cropped up occasionally, they often took the form of harsh, overblown electronics or slow-moving noise, a wildly different approach than the relatively straightforward, guitar-heavy bombast of her main band. When Priests dissolved in late 2019, Greer relocated from D.C. to L.A. right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on solo work that would expand on the experimental spirit that incubated on those earlier releases.

"Greer is a highly accomplished player of the natural horn… I find Greer's playing very musicianly: unusually graceful in the phrasing of the quick movements, with gentle, thoughtful playing in K417 and some lovely smooth and clear lines in K495, while the slow movements are all beautifully done—the Romance of K447 refined and graceful, that of K495 often truly poetic with happy details of timing. And there is no shortage of wit in the finales, or of high spirits. Greer improvises his cadenzas: in the first movement of K495 he does, rightly I think, simply a longish flourish, with no reference to the themes of the movement." Rock 'n' Roll / Jump Blues / Rhythm & Blues / Vocal / Saxophone

Another great collection of jump blues and R&B from Rev-Ola, this time featuring heavyweight singer and sax player Big John Greer recorded between 1949 and 1955. His earlier sides follows the pattern of the blues shouters like Roy Brown and Wynonie Harris. Over several 1949/50 sessions Greer belts out some great rockin' songs like his hot cover of Stick McGhee's Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee plus Long Tall Gal/ I'm The Fat Man and others along with some storming instrumentals like Rockin' With Big John and Big John's A Blowin'. The later sessions find Big John mostly just exercising his mighty lungs with the sax chores handed over to the awesome Sam "The Man" Taylor.

As a student in Melbourne, Elizabeth Kleinhenz heard frequent talk of this almost mythical figure, Germaine Greer. Urged on by her mother, a first wave feminist, she read The Female Eunuch, a clarion call that rallied women to assert their female power, and, like her mother and millions of others across the world, changed her life.
