On March 9, GBV released Ogre’s Trumpet, a limited-edition (1,000 on double vinyl, 1,000 on CD), 25-track live album recorded last August in Asbury Park, N.J. (Greetings, kids.) The set features a healthy dose of songs from last year’s How Do You Spell Heaven and August By Cake, as well as classics like “Motor Away,” “I Am A Scientist,” “Tractor Rape Chain,” “Game Of Pricks” and “Glad Girls” and a cover of the Monkees’ “Saturday’s Child.”

Fresh off a summer tour in support of their latest album, Space Gun, Robert Pollard’s prolific Guided By Voices have announced a massive new double-album called Zeppelin Over China. The band’s second double-album after last year’s August By Cake (which also happened to be their 100th LP overall) is due out February 1st.

Elinor Frey est fascinée par les origines du violoncelle, de même que par le processus créatif des musiques nouvelles. Elle joue aussi bien des instruments d’époque que des instruments modernes. Ses trois disques baroques, Fiorè (2017), Berlin Sonatas (2015) et La voce del violoncello (2013), tous parus sous l’étiquette belge Passacaille, ont reçu des critiques très élogieuses. Le titre de son premier album, Dialoghi, sorti chez Yarlung Records en 2008, est emprunté à la pièce pour violoncelle seul que le compositeur Steven Stucky lui a dédiée. Elle a entre autres bénéficié de la bourse américaine US-Italy Fulbright Fellowship ainsi que de bourses du crsh et du Conseil des arts du Canada en regard de ses travaux sur la musique italienne pour violoncelle. Elinor Frey a obtenu en 2012 un doctorat en musique de l’Université McGill. Elle est également diplômée du Mannes College of Music et de la Juilliard School.
