As one of the most innovative of Nuevo Flamenco guitarists, Armik has lifted the music genre to new heights with his repertoire of chart-topping hits. His exciting guitar virtuosity reveals much about Armik- the artist - and also demonstrates his great skills as a thematic writer of love songs which were included in his two previous volumes titled Romantic Spanish Guitar. Now, in the same concise shades of love that made his first two volumes mega hits with his devoted fans, Romantic Spanish Guitar, Volume 3, is the consummation of a trilogy of great love songs. It is also a wealth of romantic experiences straight from Armik’s heartstrings. His exemplary performances on these songs are not only showcases that expand on the stories he told in Romantic Spanish Guitar, Volumes One and Two, but are based upon the very essence of his Nuevo flamenco guitar virtuosity.
Since the kick-off early 2012 of “K(ing) (O)f (T)he W(orld)” (Erwin Java – guitar, Fokke de Jong – drums/backing vocals, Govert van der Kolm – Hammond/backing vocals and Ruud Weber – lead vocals/bass) things have developed prosperously for this Dutch blues-, rhythm & roots band. In less then 4 years the band built a solid name in the blues scene through the release of 2 studio – and 1 live album (Can’t go home 2013, KOTW 2014 and Live at Paradiso 2015). All 3 albums scored sheer positive reviews as well in the Dutch as in the foreign music press. But also a great live reputation has been built up through shows at the North Sea Jazz Festival, Rhythm & Blues Night Groningen, Bluesrock Tegelen and the Highlandsfestival.
Le Tout-Puissant Orchestre Poly-Rythmo is a difficult ensemble to follow. For one thing, they have functioned under the names Poly Rythmo de Cotonou, TP Orchestre Poly-Rythmo and L'International Poly-Rythmo among others. Add to that, a frequently shifting line up, a series of serious misadventures, a long period of dormancy, and their lack of familiarity outside of Benin (in West Africa) is understandable.
The World Heritage is a Japanese supergroup gathered and guided by master drummer Yoshida Tatsuya. The group is Kido Natsuki (Bondage Fruit) and Yamamoto Seiichi (Boredoms) on guitar, Nasuno Mitsuri (Altered States) on bass, Katsui Yuji (Bondage Fruit, etc) on violin, and Yoshida Tatsuya (Ruins, Koenjihyakkei, Korekyojinn, etc) on drums. Tatsuya, Mitsuri and Natsuki had previously played together as Korekyojinn, the mammoth power trio. This group performs mostly high-energy improvised rock with some jazzy tinges, as well as some pieces composed by Tatsuya. All of the music is very energetic and often chaotic. Almost all of the band's material has been recorded live, with only a small handful of tracks being recorded in studio. The band would appeal to fans of other Tatsuya bands, in particular fans of Korekyojinn, Daimonji or Ruins.
Raised in a refugee camp in Algeria, Aziza Brahim embodies and mourns the displacement of North Africa’s Sahrawi people. Her ascent has been steady rather than spectacular, her breakthrough coming with 2014’s Soutak, an elegant acoustic set that drew from her adopted Barcelona home. Here, Brahim embraces the electric desert blues popularised by Tinariwen and Tamikrest (with whom she shares producer Chris Eckman). It’s a buoyant sound – Brahim’s voice is too airy for drones and chants – led by rolling pieces such as Calles de Dajla and followed by slow, contemplative blues. At its heart is a title track grieving for the exiled thousands stranded in an inhospitable tract of Western Sahara, whose only escape is “music and imagination”.
The first album of a very special duet Antoine Boyer and Samuelito were both selected as Revelation by Guitarist Acoustic magazine. As a duet, they won the 4th European Guitar Award in Dresden. Antoine comes from gypsy jazz, Samuelito from the world of flamenco, and their meeting has given birth to a fabulous music drawing on various origins and inspirations. In this album, enjoy 4 compositions and 4 unreleased arrangements and get a taste of the extraordinary musical achievements of this duet !
Chemistry. You either got it, or you don’t. When the five members of Royal Southern Brotherhood convened in February 2016 at Dockside Studios, Louisiana, there was magic in the air. Just seven days later, the acclaimed U.S. soul-blues collective emerged triumphant with The Royal Gospel: the fourth album in their rocket-heeled rise and further proof of a lineup born to play together. Enough has been said about Royal Southern Brotherhood’s illustrious backstory. Enough has been written about the critical acclaim and sell-out crowds that greeted the original lineup’s 2012 breakout. Right now, fans would rather hear about the questing new material and finger-on-pulse worldview of The Royal Gospel, released 2016 on Ruf Records.
Trilogy is the seventh solo studio album by the United States-based blues guitarist and singer from Serbia, Ana Popović. It was released on May 20, 2016. Popović wrote or co-wrote the majority of the songs on the triple album, fifteen of the twenty-three songs. She enlisted the help of many top industry guest artists, such as guitarist Joe Bonamassa, lap steel guitarist Robert Randolph, rapper Al Kapone, and drummers Bernard Purdie and North Mississippi Allstars's Cody Dickinson. She also got some impressive support behind the scenes, with Tom Hambridge and Delfeayo Marsalis among others producing songs for the album.
