Herbert von Karajan was the most renowned conductor to emerge from Europe in the post-World War II era – and through fortuitous timing throughout his career, and in spite of controversy that dogged his early years, he was the most recorded conductor of the 20th century, and is likely to remain one of the most visible (and biggest-selling) conductors well into the 21st century. Born in Salzburg and descended from a family of Greek origin with deep roots in Austria – including scholars and physicians in Vienna and Salzburg – he was a music prodigy, playing the piano at three and playing his first recital a year later.

An extensive project containing a book and some CDs, put together by Okke Dijkhuizen who participated in the organ recordings for EO radio many years. One hundred recordings of monumental big organs and also of some smaller and less known instruments. The book (both in Dutch and English) contains a general introduction of the organs, as well as some historical facts and the disposition of the recorded instruments. The editor has aimed at a diversity of organ-builders as big as possible and a balanced regional representation. The result is a fascinating selection, for lovers of organs a ‘partner for life’. Der Name „Kuschel Klassik“ ist etwas irreführend, da viele der Stücke auf der Doppel-CD zu schwer klingen für romantische Momente. Dazu kommen noch Kompositionen aus der geistlichen Musik, die ebenfalls nicht zum Kuscheln einladen. „Entspannungs-Klassik“ träfe die Sache schon eher. Denn die Doppel-CD ist eine Einladung zu einem akustischen Kurzurlaub, der den Alltagsstress mit beruhigenden Klängen vergessen macht.
