Hard Rock Collection

The Hard Rock Collection is a 2CD compilation of hard rock and heavy metal music. No label listed and I do not believe it is actually affiliated with the Hard Rock Cafe, despite the logo on the front and some of the artists chosen for this. This was originally released with a completely different cover by the Pulse label in the UK and possibly due to how cheesy the cover was, they decided to do a second cover with a slight mock up of the Hard Rock Cafe logo. Nonetheless, original songs by the original artists.

UK three CD set. Released in 2016, I'm A Freak Baby - Grapefruit's overview of the UK's late Sixties/early Seventies nascent hard rock/proto-metal scene - received rapturous acclaim from pundits and punters alike. And, like all good follow-ups, I'm A Freak 2 Baby expands upon the original while simultaneously tightening the stylistic mesh. Our scope ranges from Top Five hit singles (Love Sculpture's manic, heavily influential 'Sabre Dance' and the original brass-free demo version of The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown's gothic masterpiece 'Fire') to a clutch of bands (Thor, Tonge, Tarsus and several others) that were active during our timeframe but didn't get beyond locally-recorded demos.

The roots of hard rock can be traced back to the 1950s, particularly electric blues. In the 1960s, American and British blues and rock bands began to modify rock and roll by adding harder sounds, heavier guitar riffs, bombastic drumming, and louder vocals. By the end of the decade a distinct genre of hard rock was emerging with bands like Led Zeppelin, who mixed the music of early rock bands with a more hard-edged form of blues rock and acid rock, and Deep Purple, who began as a progressive rock group in 1968 but achieved their commercial breakthrough with their fourth and distinctively heavier album, In Rock in 1970. Half a century later Hard Rock music is still one the favorite of millions of fans around the world and The Hard Rock Box showcases in 6 CD's many of the genre's most successful artists and songs. Collection includes 11 studio albums and 4 live albums by American blues-rock guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa.

Grunge pioneers who took the heavy sludge of '70s metal and infused it with the raw aesthetic of '80s punk to become an important band of the '90s. Collection includes: 'Louder Than Love' (1989); 'Badmotorfinger' (1991); 'Superunknown' (1994); 'Down On The Upside' (1996).

At one point in the mid-'70s, Horslips seemed poised to become Ireland's answer to Steeleye Span. But they also had a shot at being the next Jethro Tull (only a better hard rock outfit), or maybe Genesis, or even Yes in their folkier moments. Those events never quite happened, but Horslips released half-a-dozen superb albums along the way, becoming Ireland's most acclaimed folk-rock and progressive band.
