Chihei Hatakeyama is a Tokyo-based musician and mastering engineer who creates nature-evoking electro-acoustic ambient music.
"Journey to The End of August", released through the Hidden Vibes label, is comprised of three lengthy pieces, and the material itself dates back to the end of 2015. Much like the way these compositions unfold at a glacial pace, Hatakeyama continued to tinker with these works until the fall of 2017…

A Long Journey is very focused on its field recordings, but it also highlights what a fabulously talented musician Chihei is, with very direct guitar-based pieces, as well as gorgeous piano elements. That it features the enormously talented (and future Home Normal artist) Federico Durand, only highlights its beautiful mystery.
The incredibly industrious Chihei Hatakeyama cues up yet another sublime collection of introspective ambient electronics. Ghostly Garden combines new sound sources with older, recycled files that have appeared in prior releases, yet Hatakeyama's music retains its freshness, achieving that rare sense of stillness and depth that only the very best exponents of micro-drone come close to. The music follows the same sort of gauzy, filtered drone-scapes we've come to know and love from this fellow, but if you had suspicions of being fatigued by too much of a good thing, clap ears on the likes of 'A House In The Fog' and 'Gray Hued Sky' and you'll immediately be assured that this is an artist still very much on top of his game.

"Bare Strata" was recorded at the General Store live venue in Sydney on August 28th, 2011. "Returning" was recorded in Hatakeyama's studio. Before going to Sydney, Hatakeyama went to Cairns for his Australia tour. The inspiration of "Bare Strata" came from the natural surroundings on the Cairns Beach where he spent his day off during the tour. Some sound pieces in “bare strata” were also used in his previous album.
