Hazmat Modine

Rattling with the sounds of migration from the caldron of New York City, Hazmat Modine returns to Europe rejuvenated. They’ll be serving up the bones of American music on a platter of silver, brass, reeds, electric guitars, violin, and vocal harmonies, and as always, presided over by the dashing harmonica wizard Wade Schuman.

New York-based folk group/ethnomusicology experiment Hazmat Modine draw from a wide array of influences and time periods. Performing music from the '20s through the early '60s, including genres such as swing, klezmer, hokum jug band, blues, rocksteady, and more, the dual harmonica-fronted band has earned a reputation as fearless world music alchemists. Founder Wade Schuman was brought up in Ann Arbor, MI, a city known for its music scene, before relocating to New York.

WOMAD is the World of Music, Arts & Dance (founded by the musician Peter Gabriel in 1982), and WOMADelaide, the Australian WOMAD festival, kicked off in 1992. Over the past 20 years Womadelaide has become one of the nation's favourite outdoor festivals.

Throughout her career, Natalie Merchant has thrived on exceeding only her own expectations.

Born and raised in Israel, trombonist, composer and bandleader Reut Regev started shaping her impressive reputation on the Jazz scene at a young age. At only five years old she was introduced to the piano, and then added the trombone to her repertoire at age thirteen. While in high school, she had the opportunity to play with some of Israel’s most creatively improvisa-tional musicians, as well as perform at Israel’s top Jazz Festivals. Reut eventually decided to concentrate on her beloved trombone, and has proven to be a remarkably inspiring innovator. After serving in Israel’s army band as first trombonist and soloist, Reut made her way to New York City, joining her now husband, drummer Igal Foni.
