The Hollies: 20 Golden Greats is a compilation album by The Hollies, CDP 7 46238 2, produced in 1978 by EMI by Ron Richards. The album cover's subtitle is "20 great sounds that grew out of the North."…
Hollies first five albums box set 1964-1966. This is a fantastic value purchase of the first 5 Hollies albums in their authentic mono sound. Retailing at about a tenner you can't go wrong. I like the way the CDs are presented as facsimiles of the original LPs. The mastering appear to date from the late 1990s, so before the loudness wars took hold. You can really crank these CDs up on your system without fear of distortion. The Manchester Sound comes thundering out of the speakers. It's how this band should be heard. It's how these recordings were originally conceived.
One of the best British Invasion bands, the Hollies were rightfully famous for their stellar harmonies and keen sense of pop songcraft. The Hollies originally inspired by the harmony rich sound of Buddy Holly, they soon became artistic contemporaries of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, with their distinctive sound which was all part of the British Invasion of the US in the 60's.
The Hollies' Greatest Hits, whose release was sparked by the 1972 success of "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress," the band's most successful American single, contains 12 of their 14 biggest U.S. hits, 1964-1972,
Another Night was a wholly unexpected album at the time of its release in February of 1975.
The Hollies’ 15th official album, it also marked the return of Allan Clarke to the lineup for the first time since Distant Light in 1971.
The Hollies are a British pop/rock group best known for their pioneering and distinctive three-part vocal harmony style. The Hollies became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s and into the mid 1970s. It was formed by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash in 1962 as a Merseybeat-type music group in Manchester, although some of the band members came from towns further north in East Lancashire. Graham Nash left the group in 1968 to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash. They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries. They are one of the few British groups of the early 1960s, along with the Rolling Stones, that have never disbanded and continue to record and perform. In recognition of their achievements, the Hollies were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
