Honing Seven

L.A.B. have spent over three years making their name on the live circuit in both New Zealand & Australia, and their debut album is a result of countless sets honing their material. Written across Whakatane & Tauranga, the album has been recorded across week-long stints at Wellington’s Surgery Studios with Dr Lee Prebble. Live, the band would debrief after each show, critiquing and adjusting arrangements after each show. The recordings are no different, working and tweaking until each track was perfect.

Michael W. Smith became one of the most enduringly popular artists in the contemporary Christian music market while also finding success as a mainstream artist. The songwriter was born in Kenova, West Virginia, the son of an oil refinery worker and a caterer. He became a devout Christian at age ten and spent his teenage years around a support group of fellow believers who frequently gathered to create music. That support group split up after high school, and Smith turned to alcohol, drugs, and wild times. Meanwhile, he scraped through a couple semesters of college and began honing his songwriting skills, which led to a songwriting company's interest in his music in 1978. He moved to Nashville, where he played with a series of local bands, including Rose. He was still heavily into drugs and continued using until October 1979, when he suffered an emotional mental breakdown that culminated in his recommitment to Christ. The next day, he auditioned for a new CCM group, Higher Ground, as a keyboardist. Smith landed the gig and began to clean up his act while touring with the band.

Peterson was born to immigrants from the West Indies; his father worked as a porter for Canadian Pacific Railway.[4] Peterson grew up in the neighborhood of Little Burgundy in Montreal, Quebec. It was in this predominantly black neighborhood that he encountered the jazz culture.[5] At the age of five, Peterson began honing his skills with on trumpet and piano, but a bout of tuberculosis when he was seven prevented him from playing the trumpet again, so he directed all his attention to the piano. His father, Daniel Peterson, an amateur trumpeter and pianist, was one of his first music teachers, and his sister Daisy taught young him classical piano. Peterson was persistent at practicing scales and classical études.

Tiger Moon took a team up to the Cariboo Mountain Region of BC to record a piece of Canadiana, and this is the album they emerged from the mountains with. They also recorded a documentary on the making of the album, available on DVD and online video streaming hosts. This is Tiger Moon's very first full-length release.
