Influenced by Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster but definitely his own person, Ike Quebec was one of the finest swing-oriented tenor saxmen of the 1940s and '50s. Though maybe not as innovative as some of his peers, Quebec had a big, breathy sound that was distinctive and made him a cornerstone of many a recording session. This 22 track compilation traces his career from 1944 to '46.

Blue & Sentimental is an album by American saxophonist Ike Quebec recorded in 1961 and released on the Blue Note label. The album features a sparse quartet of Quebec (occasionally doubling on piano), guitarist Grant Green, and a rhythm section of Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. The album features some rare rhythm guitar accompaniment by Green, who was more typically a soloist. The Allmusic review by Steve Huey awarded the album 5 stars and calling it "a superbly sensuous blend of lusty blues swagger and achingly romantic ballads… a quiet, sorely underrated masterpiece".

Ike Quebec's timeless, big-toned tenor was a frequent visitor to Rudy Van Gelder's studio in the early sixties. But this session from December 1961 with spare, soulful backing from Grant Green, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones is his masterpiece. The leaner setting works perfectly, evoking an aura of relaxation and monumentality, with the deepest blue of accents.

Two weeks after Ike Quebec recorded his comeback album Heavy Soul for Blue Note, he was back at the Van Gelder Studio with the same band (Freddie Roach, Milt Hinton and Al Harewood), making a second album. The confidence paid off because It Might As Well Be Spring is every bit the classic the first album proved to be. Quebec's big-toned, vulnerable tenor playing is a thing to behold, as his heart-stopping version of the title tune, "Lover Man" and "Willow Weep For Me" attest. "Easy – Don't Hurt" is one of his blues masterpieces.

My Bluescountry is the first solo album from Ike Turner after he was released from prison in 1991. The project for this album began when Ike came to Germany in 1994 to record a national TV-Show and met his friend and former manager Gerhard Augustin in Munich. Ike wanted an album that features his all-time favourite songs, from his shows, recordings, films and albums. The idea was to show the side of Ike that is the musician, the singer and the writer of musical gems. The songs were recorded over a number of trips to Europe. Included is the Tina written song Sexy Ida, dedicated to Ike and Tina Turner’s favourite piano player Patrick Gammon, who died in 1996.
