To celebrate the 80th birthday of the composer, DUX Recordings presents Krzysztof Penderecki symphonies conducted by the maestro himself. Penderecki’s symphonies have a special place in composer’s legacy as they have never been recorded in a series before under the artistic direction of the maestro. Penderecki said that the DUX recordings present the best performances of his works and therefore making the series even more appealing. This very special project is presented for the first time as a box set, at a very special price.

Dvořák's lyrical and cheerful Eighth Symphony, which premiered successfully in Prague on February 2, 1890, is one of the famous Bohemian composer's most often-played works. He succeeded here "in writing a work different from my other symphonies, with individual thoughts elaborated in a new way". Every movement and every melody in this music reflects the fact that it was wholly inspired by the landscape of Bohemia.

This is the second volume in a series from Neeme Järvi and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande dedicated to the orchestral music of the Swiss-born composer Joachim Raff. Although he was a highly popular and prolific composer during his day, his works quickly fell out of the repertoire after his death and are largely forgotten today. The idiomatic performances by Neeme Järvi and his Swiss orchestra in Volume 1, described as ‘peerless’ by BBC Music (*****), suggest that they are the perfect performers to reinvigorate interest in Raff’s music.

Amusing juxtapositions that here! In the first twenty tracks, the famous pianist duo Gülru Ensari and Herbert Schuch, here in four hands, slyly mix Brahms waltzes and others, perhaps less well known, of Hindemith - superb little pearls of coquetry, titled Drei Wunderschöine Mädchen im Schwarzwald ("Three beautiful girls in the Black Forest"). After completing this little round trip between Brahms and Hindemith, the duo ended up blurring the cards with two Anatolian Melodies by the Turkish composer Özkan Manav (* 1967), bridge between East and West.

New chamber compositions by Telemann are now made available through intensive research. They are presented in modern score editions focusing on the Magdeburg Sunday Concerts (Sonntagsmusiken). The arias include pieces taken from complete sacred compositions and performed in Hamburgs principal places of worship during the church year 1726-27. The Eisenach court secretary Johann Friedrich Helbig was the author of the texts for the church compositions and the arias included in them.
