The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is the name given to the TV series of Sherlock Holmes adaptations produced by British television company Granada Television between 1984 and 1994, although only the first two series bore that title on screen. The series was broadcast on the ITV network in the UK, and starred Jeremy Brett as the famous detective.

When a youthful astronaut lands on the moon, he finds it inhabited by a number of literary figures, including the great liar Baron Munchausen. Believing this sceptical visitor needs to learn to enjoy life, the Baron takes him on a journey to what appears to be the Earth of the Eighteenth Century. There, the two visit the Ottoman court, rescue a captive noblewoman, escape the Turkish fleet under the cover of a cloud of tobacco smoke aboard a Dutch trading ship, are swallowed by a gigantic fish, visit the bottom of the sea, invent the steam engine, relieve a besieged fortress, and more.

Panorama looks at the day the summer riots reached Manchester. The August riots probably would not have spread to Manchester if police in London had acted faster, the city's chief constable has told BBC Panorama. Peter Fahy said, with the benefit of hindsight "if London had been under control sooner, we probably would not have faced the problems in Manchester". He added that his force is still tracking down hundreds of suspects from at least 300 crime scenes.

The Red Riding Trilogy follows controversial stories revolving around the manhunt for the brutal Yorkshire Ripper. After a failed attempt to crack Fleet Street, a cynical journalist returns to his homeland of Yorkshire and finds himself assigned to report on the case of a local girl who has gone missing. But after her bizarrely mutilated body is discovered, he is thrown into a sleaze infested, nightmarish world of corruption. As the killer's identity remains a mystery, savage events spiral out of control, spanning generations and leading to a shocking climax.

The tribune Marcus Aulus arrives in a distant province to oversee the building of an aqueduct, where he clashes with the centurion Gaius over his brutal treatment of slaves. Gaius provokes them to a bloody revolt, then falsely accuses Marco of inciting it. The escaped slave Balisten, grateful to Marcus for an earlier mercy, joins up with other slaves to exonerate Marcus and expose Gaius’ treachery.
