Simon (Vincent Lindon) est moniteur de natation à la piscine de Calais. Il ne s’intéresse pas forcément au problème des réfugiés, se contentant de ruminer la liste de ses échecs, à commencer par sa rupture avec son ex-femme. Lorsqu’il rencontre Bilal (Firat Ayverdi), un jeune émigré kurde qui veut rejoindre l’Angleterre, il se propose de l’aider. Pour de mauvaises raisons. Pour impressionner son ex-compagne et tenter de la reconquérir. La situation devient rapidement incontrôlable pour Simon qui se met hors la loi en hébergeant Bilal. Pris dans une spirale qu’il ne maîtrise pas, le personnage interprété par Vincent Lindon prend conscience de la condition des migrants et de l’injustice de leur sort. Et il s’attache de plus en plus à Bilal.
