Finland's premier melodic hard rockers Human Temple are back! Their 2004 debut "Insomnia" received rave reviews, and the fans have been eagerly awaiting a follow-up. Now the wait is over, so be prepared for a "Murder Of Crows". The foundation of the Temple was laid way back in the late eighties, when vocalist Janne Hurme and drummer Petri Lehto formed their first band. The guys were highly impressed by Kiss, Dokken, Crüe and the likes, so the style of the music just had to be hard rock, yet always with a keen ear for a good melody.

"Silent Songs" is a 24-song cycle dating from 1974-77, and is a grand gamble. For its entirety, almost two hours, its tempo is moderately slow, its texture open and spare, its dynamic hushed. The actual music is a sort of distilled late-Romantic tonality. The piano accompaniment is made of delicately shaped arpeggios. The harmonies are studded with appoggiaturas (downbeat dissonances that resolve) and surprising (but satisfying) substitutions for where one would expect a progression to go. Yakovenko is stunning in both his intensity and restraint, and Scheps is an ideally sensitive accompanist.

When one is listening to the great opening track "Living Proof", one is brought back some years backwards: the good old days should I say… And the good feel is even maintained while you hear the great guitars during "Haunting Me". Would this "Wishbone Ash" album be the one of some kind of recovering the glory?
