Dani Nel·lo presents his new recording project Noir (Nomada 57, 2010), an evocation, on the one hand, the universe of jazz-noir and crime fiction and, moreover, a singular vision of the language of the saxophone in the Blues and rhythm'n'blues 50. Also, Noir is also a tribute to the records that shaped the saxophonist Dani Nel · lo early in his career: those magical recordings by masters such as Arnett Cobb, Willis Jackson or Gene Ammons, in which the sound was the most powerful transmitter emotions. For Noir, Nel · lo has had three jazzmen exception: Francisco Suarez, pianist of exquisite taste and full of harmonic resources, Nono Fernández, resounding bass of great ingenuity, and Ramon Angel Rey, drums and steady dynamic.

The first compilation of the facebook page Doom Jazz / Dark Jazz / Funeral Jazz, a new tribute to these sounds with some of the best bands of the genre and currently active. Compilation edited by Adriano Vincenti (Macelleria Mobile di Mezzanotte, Detour Doom Project, Senketsu No Night Club, Last call at Nightowls) with the help of Maria Ruvalcaba Uribe (Last Call in Nighthowls) and Sam Obscure (Midnight Radio - Noir Jazz).

Fittingly for a man born in the cosmopolitan city of Trieste, trumpeter Enrico Rava is as at home with formal music as with abstraction, and with straight-ahead jazz as with cutting-edge contemporary developments. Fronting a heavily rock-influenced, twin-guitar band here, he touches musical bases ranging from woozy tangos through floating, freeish pieces to relatively straightforward jazz and multi-textured jazz-rock in an album programmed as a species of ‘soundtrack’ to an accompanying cartoon booklet drawn by Francesco Tullio Altan.
