Ibiza stands for the ocean, beaches, world-class DJs and - of course - the legendary Cafee del Mar. The latter is well known for the breathtaking sunset down by the bay of Cala des Moro. Josee Padilla, resident DJ at Cafe del Mar and the man behind the legendary compilation-series, is now working on "Ibiza Sundowner presented by Jose Padilla", in where he presents the very best of chill-out music on two CDs. Not only featuring artists such as Silent Poets with their "(There's Always) Meaning In The Tone" and Peter Broderick with his "Solace In Gala", but also with the exclusive track "Ocean Drum" from Jose Padillas' latest album.

While several tracks of Padilla's appeared in his various compilations, it was not until 1998 that he released his first album, Souvenir, on Mercury Records label. The CD featured collaborations with several chill-out musicians, including Lenny Ibizarre and Paco Fernández. His second album, Navigator, was released in 2001. The album received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Album.
Spanish Jose Padilla was seduced by the idea of becoming a DJ while working as a waiter in Barcelona, moving to Ibiza, known as the White Island, in 1975, Padilla soon got involved in the local night club circuit. In 1991 Cafe del Mar gave him the opportunity he was waiting for, producing an acclaimed collection of club/dance records during the 1990s. Souvenir is a first solo album by Jose Padilla released in 1998 on Mercury Records label. The CD featured collaborations with several chill-out musicians, including Lenny Ibizarre and Paco Fernández.
José Padilla: "I always wanted to put together a selection of tracks that reflects and transmits the original and real spirit of a timeless sunset, that brings back to me and all the people that were there in Ibiza on those magic days. And also for the new generations so they can have a taste of those days with this selection. And my friend Frederic gave me the opportunity and all the facilities to develop this project, and I thought "Ok José, that's about time".
I leave it to you, guys, to discover every track inside of this compilation and enjoy and feel the essence of Ibiza. I also want to include one exclusive track "Akami" with the talented song writter and singer Kirsty Keatch and myself, taken from our new forthcoming album. And remember if you love music, you love life".

Originally, Café Del Mar was a bar located in Sant Antoni de Portmany, a town on the western coast of Ibiza. The collections of the music played at the bar were first sold on cassette at the end of the 1980s. In 1994, the first official "Café del Mar" CD was released on React.
The best Cafe Del Mar albums date mostly from DJ Jose Padilla's time as curator of the series (1994-1999) and they remain essential snapshots of warm, tech-savvy, post-dance chillout music… an oasis of old-school ambient, warm Arabian strings, liquid dub, Latin melodies, nu jazz and lounge. Each is spread over a wide, blissed-out canvas that's as bright as a sunny day.
