2014 five CD box set containing a quintet of releases from this New Wave act and their original frontman. Includes Kajagoogoo's first three albums: White Feathers, Islands and Crazy People's Right To Speak; plus Limahl's first two solo albums: Don't Suppose and Colour All My Days.
Kajagoogoo's light synth pop and pretty, photogenic look made the group an instant sensation in the early days of MTV. Led by vocalist Limahl (born Chris Hamill), the group also featured Steve Askew (guitar), Nick Beggs (vocals, bass), and Stuart Crawford (vocals, synthesizer). Produced by Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes, Kajagoogoo's debut single "Too Shy" hit number one in the U.K. in early 1983; it peaked at number five in the U.S. "Too Shy" and the following album White Feathers proved the band may have shared some similarities with Duran Duran and Naked Eyes…
White Feathers is the debut album by the British new wave band Kajagoogoo, released on 18th April 1983 and the only album by the band to-date to feature lead vocalist Limahl. It was produced by Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran and Colin Thurston, who was Duran Duran's producer at the time, except for track #5, the self-titled "Kajagoogoo", an instrumental, which was produced by Tim Palmer and the band. This self-titled song was featured in the John Hughes movie Sixteen Candles as the film's opening title song in 1984. The album contains their most successful single "Too Shy", a UK Number One hit in February 1983, as well as two other UK Top Twenty hits; "Ooh to Be Ah" and "Hang on Now".
It's unbelievable how good this album is, compared to their debut. The songwriting is very strong and synth pop/funk combination works perfectly. Limahl's department didn't affect the quality of the vocals, in fact Nick's sound even better. Unfortunately the record lacks a real hit, so very few people remember it. Shame, because it's one of the best synth pop albums I've heard in a long time.
The original 1983 Now That's What I Call Music compilation - forever after referred to as 'NOW 1' - is being reissued on double vinyl and double CD. Issued in November of 1983, the Various Artists set (issued on vinyl and cassette at the time) came about from a partnership between Virgin and EMI and featured an impressive 11 number one singles, amongst it's "30 great tracks". These included singles from Phil Collins, Duran Duran, Bonnie Tyler, Paul Young and Culture Club.
2009 three CD set, the first volume in the So80s series. The finest collection of original classic 12" club & extended mixes. So80s was mixed by German DJ duo Blank & Jones and features non-stop mixes of great '80s tracks from legendary bands like by Yazoo, O.M.D., Ultravox, Simple Minds, Pet Shop Boys, Talk Talk, Erasure, Bryan Ferry, Duran Duran and many others.
The second installment in the Blank & Jones So 80's series, this triple disc release includes a continuous mix CD followed by two CD's of unmixed rare extended versions of hits by some of the '80's biggest artists. Features tracks by New Order, Kajagoogoo, Billy Idol, Duran Duran, Fra Lippo Lippi, OMD, Howard Jones, a-Ha, Endgames, Simple Minds, Bronski Beat, Corey Hart, KTP and many others.
No less than 144 lesser known tracks from throughout the 1980s. OK, there are a few big hits on here such as Spandau Ballet's True, Ultravox's Vienna, Blondie's Atomic, Duran Duran's Girls On Film to name a few, but my love of this mega 80s multi CD box set are all the tunes that you won't find on every other 80s compilation album around.
