Kawamura

Born in Nishinomiya (Japan), moved to Düsseldorf (Germany) with her family at the age of 5, where she started to study piano under Kyoko Sawano. There are two mentors in Kawamura’s musical education: Malgorzata Bator-Schreiber in Göttingen who built her up musically and artistically, and Prof. Vladimir Krainev at the Hannover University of Music and Drama who developed her further to an artistic personality. After numerous outstanding successes at renowned international piano competitions, Kawamura’s international concert career began. She won the first prizes at the Concours Clara Haskil in Vevey, the A. Casagrande International Piano Competition in Terni, the G.B. Viotti International Music Competition in Vercelli and the European Chopin Competition in Darmstadt, she became laureate at the Concours Géza Anda in Zurich, the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Brussels.

MA space between is a collection of works for solo piano which celebrate ma, an ancient Japanese concept concerning space and time, which literally means “interval” or “gap” in Japanese.

Quando la moglie gli annuncia di aspettare un bambino, Izumi non potrebbe essere più felice. Ma è anche un po' preoccupato: sarà un buon padre? E, in fondo, cos'è un buon padre? Lui, il suo, non l'ha mai conosciuto. Izumi è cresciuto da solo con la madre Yuriko, un'insegnante di musica, in un rapporto tanto stretto quanto sfuggente anche per loro. E proprio la madre è la fonte delle sue ansie maggiori: negli stessi giorni in cui scopre che diventerà padre, Izumi scopre anche che, in un certo senso, smetterà di essere figlio. La madre Yuriko, infatti, mostra i primi segni dell'Alzheimer: dimentica le cose o dove si trova, inizia a uscire di casa perdendosi per il quartiere, e una volta sembra addirittura scordare di avere un figlio. Izumi sa che sua madre è malata, ma quell'episodio riapre una vecchia ferita: Izumi non può in nessun modo cancellare quanto accaduto tra il 1994 e il 1995, quando lui era un bambino e Yuriko se ne andò di casa all'improvviso…
