Saigon Kick was formed by lead vocalist Matt Kramer and guitarist Jason Bieler along with bassist Tom Defile and drummer Phil Varone. They gained a following on the local club scene and generated enough of a buzz to be signed to Third Stone records in 1990 and release their first album in 1991. It features backing vocals by then future Journey singer Jeff Scott Soto. Their sound was described as heavy metal-meets-Beatles-harmony, as their music was crunchy and heavy, while many of their vocal arrangement were greatly harmonized.

Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan with a few friends and who lives alone with his father. His life is not very difficult and his personal trials not that overwhelming. However, one day he makes the simple decision to become a super-hero even though he has no powers or training.

Natasha Bedingfield spent most of the 2010s quietly, bouncing around on the small screen, spending time doing charitable work, and living in a world where "Unwritten" and "Pocketful of Sunshine" remained recurrent on both radio and television. Along the way, she put out plenty of non-LP singles, but an album called The Next Chapter never materialized and soon she parted ways with Epic/Sony.

'Kick' is very much a return to form from the more positive, upbeat themes of its predecessor, 'Bury Me in Philly'. 'I think that 'Kick' and 'Devour' are a lot closer to one another than 'Bury Me in Philly'. Hause explains. 'Bury Me in Philly' was me moving to California and figuring out what that was going to look like and figuring out happiness. I didn't want to write a bummed record if I wasn't bummed'.
