How time flies in DGMLive world, and as BST leaps into action and Easter is upon us. It's time once again for Mr Stormy to let fly his most recent discoveries from the depths of the DGM archive. This is now the eighth year of these wonderful gems, and this collection, is a real blast. Unearthed treats from the murky, cavernous archives, some of which have been newly created from the multi-track reels of tape that we just happen to have lying around the place. These have only previously been offered as MP3s, but now, for your delight and fetishization, can be suffered in full FLAC quality. Go on, you know you want to, less calories than an easter egg!

Although the actual track is sadly incomplete you can hear lots of whoops and laughter after Level 5’s barnstorming conclusion, it’s almost as though the Crims were surprised at having tame this heavy monstrosity. As they belt through ProzaKc Blues Robert’s rig goes awol and afterward you can clearly hear Belew checking to see if everything is OK before proceeding with a beautifully rendered TCOL. “Welcome to the first evening of our current US tour. Thought we’d try it out on you first and see what you think and you can tell us later and then we’ll go on if it’s possible,” says Belew to the folks at Phoenix’s Orpheum Theatre. After a storming FaKcts Of Life, the gremlins return to chew at the integrity of the interlocking guitar sections causing a bit of a short circuit during ElektriK. Pushing forward, fans of Trey Gunn’s baritone thrumming at the bass end of things are in for a treat during a briskly trotting Dinosaur. His touch guitar snarls and growls like an angry beast which seems rather appropriate. Notwithstanding a blistering Happy, an ethereal TPTB II and a heavenly Deception Of The Thrush, all told the Crims are still ironing out the bugs and finding their feet at the beginning of the tour here.

OK, the quality of this recording is frankly dire. Even Alex Stormy Mundy’s restorative powers have their limits. Nevertheless, once your ears acclimatise to the grain and patina of an illicit recording that’s 46 years old, this is an astoundingly good performance.

In the Court of the Crimson King (subtitled An Observation by King Crimson) is the debut album from the English rock band King Crimson, released on 10 October 1969 on Island Records in England and Atlantic Records in America. The album is one of the first and most influential of the progressive rock genre, where the band largely departed from the blues influences that rock music was founded upon and combined elements of jazz, classical, and symphonic music. The album reached No. 5 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 28 on the US Billboard 200, where it was certified Gold. The album was reissued several times in the 1980s and 1990s using inferior copies of the master tapes. After the masters were located in 2003, a 40th-anniversary edition of the album was released in 2009 with new stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes by Steven Wilson.
