In Istanbul, a jazz trumpeter pulls the murdered body of a young woman from the surf. He remembers her from the night before, when he saw her at a millionaire playboy's party and then later watched as she was assaulted by the party's host and two of his friends. In confusion, Jimmy, the musician, leaves for Rio where he finds the sympathetic ear of Rita, a singer who invites him to live with her and helps him recover his equilibrium and his musical ability. Then, into the room walks a woman who looks like Wanda, the murder victim. Jimmy pursues her, not caring if she's alive or dead. What's going on?

Sigur Rós’s ambitious plan to make a film for every track on last year's ‘Valtari’ album drew to a close in December with one of the series’ most ambitious submissions from director Floria Sigismondi. The flyblown 10-min mini-epic features indie movie stars Elle Fanning and John Hawkes, as father and daughter, one of whom may be dead. The sixteenth film in the series, it renews Sigur Ros's relationship with Sigismondi, who in 2003 won the European MTV video of year for the band's ‘Vaka', in which gas-masked school children played in the black snow of a nuclear winter. This new package sees all 16 Valtari films collected together on DVD or Blu-ray as the ‘Valtari Film Experiment’. The release includes all 14 films commissioned by the band, alongside the two winning entries from a parallel public competition, plus three additional making-of features.

While it remains true that atmospheric electronica is usually associated with the dilated pupils of youthful punters in search of a comforting conclusion to a sleep-deprived weekend, proper ambient grooves, such as those comprising Ambient Soho Volume II exist in a slightly more mature realm. This London-based Millennium Records’ concept successfully attempts to showcase a warmer side of electronic orchestration. This is not a chaotic potluck of tiresome bleeps and drones merely aspiring to play tricks on your mind. These selections are instrumental manifestations of a nubile artistic character.
It is impossible to deny the influences of traditional roots dub, proper Detroit minimalism and modern new age composition, however, like all forward moving artists, these acts manage to create something unique out of something borrowed…
