The unmistakable sound of Viennese dance, entertainment and operetta music can be experienced in very special interpretations by the Salzburg Wind Philharmonic under the direction of its chief conductor Hansjorg Angerer. The album contains works by Johann Strauss father & son, Josef & Eduard Strauss, Joseph Lanner, Carl Michael Ziehrer, Franz von Suppe, Karl Komzak jun., Julius Fucik, Franz Lehar, Anton Rosenkranz, Jaroslav Labsky and Josef Hellmesberger jun.

Hans Knappertsbusch (1888 - 1965) was one of the most renowned and beloved conductors of the German Romantic repertoire in the mid-twentieth century. Although he grew up playing and loving music, his parents objected to the notion of a musical career. Consequently, Knappertsbusch studied philosophy at Bonn University; in 1908, however, he entered the Cologne Conservatory, where he studied conducting with Fritz Steinbach. Knappertsbusch began his career as a staff conductor at the Mülheim-Ruhr Theater (1910 - 1912) and then as opera director in his home town (1913 - 1918). Equally important to his development were his summers as an assistant to director Siegfried Wagner and conductor Hans Richter at the Bayreuth Festival.

There are few concerts in the world that are awaited with as much excitement as the New Year’s Concert from Vienna. Under the direction of Christian Thielemann, the Vienna Philharmonic ushers in the New Year with a concert in the magnificent Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein.

The 2021 Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert takes place on January 1, 2021, under the baton of Riccardo Muti in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna. After 1993, 1997, 2000, 2004, and 2018, this year's concert will mark the 6th time that Riccardo Muti, whose close musical partnership with the Vienna Philharmonic has now extended nearly 50 years, conducts this prestigious concert event.
