With its full sound, charismatic and distinctive timbre the Harpsichord has been a backbone of many composers’ works ever since the Baroque era, spanning all the way up to the modern cinematic music. Driven by the desire to capture every single tone color of this amazing instrument in detail, we embarked on the journey of recording and creating an easily playable instrument, while still preserving its character and its unique “voice”.

Using Superball friction mallets, we sampled a variety of Orchestral Bass Drums, Timpani, Taiko, Thunder Sheet and Gongs to create a library of evolving sonic textures. Working in close collaboration with virtuoso percussionist Joby Burgess and Emmy nominated recording engineer Nick Wollage, we have created a virtual instrument like no other.

The Qanun (Kanun) is a plucked string instrument. It is a type of large Zither/Psaltery with trapezoidal soundboard and common in traditional Middle Eastern, North African and West Asian music. It is regarded as a classical instrument in most of the Arab world and Turkey (kanun). The history of the Qanun is somewhat sparse, but earliest versions of the instrument go back to 10th Century Egypt.
