L’opera di Alfred Lichtenstein appartiene agli anni splendidi dell’espressionismo tedesco, fra il 1910 e il 1914: anni in cui i giovani autori si chiamavano Gottfried Benn, Else Lasker-Schüler, Georg Heym, Jakob van Hoddis, e in cui, ognuno per la sua via, si rivelavano Georg Trakl e Franz Kafka.
