Les Miserables

Jean Valjean leaves jail, having served a 19-year sentence for stealing a loaf of bread, a hard and bitter man. The kindness of a bishop sets him on a new course, however, and eight years later he has become Monsieur Madeleine, a respected mayor and industrialist. His past suddenly catches up with him when he is recognised as the former convict and is nearly arrested for breaking parole by Inspector Javert.

(Les Misérables in Concert) is a concert version of the musical , produced to celebrate its 10th anniversary. It was filmed in October 1995 at the Royal Albert Hall. Sir Cameron Mackintosh hand-selected the cast, which has come to be called the Les Misérables Dream Cast, assembling cast members from around the world. The end of the programme comes to a dramatic conclusion when seventeen international Jean Valjeans take to the stage to each sing a few bars of "Do You Hear the People Sing?" in their native languages. They are then joined by the entire cast and choir to sing the last verse of "One Day More!", receiving applause and a standing ovation.

Cameron Mackintosh presents a brand new 25th anniversary production of Boublil & Schönberg's legendary musical, LES MISÉRABLES, with glorious new staging and spectacular reimagined scenery inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo. This new production has already been acclaimed by critics, fans and new audiences and is breaking box office records across the UK. Cameron Mackintosh is now ‘Bringing her Home’ to play at the Barbican Theatre in London (where it originally premiered in 1985) as part of the show’s 25th Anniversary celebrations. Les Mis will run for 22 performances only between 14 September – 2 October 2010. This will be the first time anywhere in world that two productions of the same musical are playing in the same city, giving London theatre-goers the only chance of seeing this acclaimed new production.
