In London, the beautiful Venetian Carla Borin (Yuliya Mayarchuk) is an intern at the front desk of an hotel. She is looking for an apartment to allow her boyfriend Matteo (Jarno Berardi) to join her there. The real estate agent, Moira (Francesca Nunzi) happens to be a lesbian and rents her a loft with a view of the Thames. When the hot-tempered and jealous Matteo finds a nude picture of Carla and letters from her former French lover Bernard (Mauro Lorenz), Carla and Matteo have a row on the phone. Angry at Mateo, Carla sleeps with Moira. Matteo, desperate, comes to London, where he finds Moira naked in Carla's apartment. He confronts Carla about all her past infidelities and refuses a blowjob from her before leaving. After a walk in the park, where he sees lots of sexual activity, he changes his mind. Carla shows up with a written account of her infidelities but Matteo declares he no longer needs to know.

A new farrago from Pedro Almodóvar-as outrageous as his previous efforts, but without the suavity. Verónica Forqué plays Kika, a makeup artist whose life is complicated by a lesbian maid, a brooding lover, the lesbian maid's delinquent brother (who used to be a porno star), and the brooding lover's American stepfather (who may or may not be a murderer). Almodóvar shuffles them around in various combinations, but his career as a shock merchant is running out of steam; the movie feels hammy and strained, and the details are chucked in your face. Almodóvar has devised a subplot, starring Victoria Abril, which is meant to attack the emotional greed of television, but he succeeds only in drawing attention to his own failings; sensitive souls may not want to hang around to see out the prolonged rape scene. Almodóvar's palette of colors is as bright and warming as ever, but what he paints with it leaves you cold. In Spanish.
