On November 2, 1975, director Pier Paolo Pasolini was brutally murdered by a young man in Rome. His last film, released months later, was the highly controversial Salò or the 120 Days of Sodom (1975), a story about four fascist libertines who gather young boys and girls for their own pleasure, causing them pain, suffering, and all sorts of tortures. Of this film, specially made to stir some shock from audiences, we didn't have much clue of what was Pasolini's proposition, we're left to discover for ourselves since his views on it weren't known to most of us. Up until now.

Produced, recorded and mixed by Johann Scheerer, The Libertines and Babyshambles man took to Hamburg to make the album after 'falling in love' with the Clouds Hill Recordings studio and moving to the German city for six months. The record also features a new recording of the Amy Winehouse tribute 'Flags Of The Old Regime' (now called 'Flags From The Old Regime'). The album also features a song about the terrorist attacks which took place in Paris last November, called Hell To Pay At The Gates Of Heaven. It also includes a new recording of the Amy Winehouse tribute track Flags Of The Old Regime, retitled as Flags From The Old Regime.

Once upon a time in prelapsarian 2003 – just before high-speed internet services made one-click clever-clogs out of today’s generation of musicians – The Maccabees started life as all good schoolboy bands should.
