Lilac Time

The Lilac Time are original members Nick & Stephen Duffy, with Claire Duffy who joined in 1999 and helped out immeasurably here by Ben Peeler. John Paterno returns to mix and master as he has done since No Sad Songs of 2015. Without conventional drums or bass their fondness for country and folk hues are clearer. These are unequivocally and absolutely the best songs Stephen Duffy has ever written in his twenty or so long playing album career. The first single release is "A Makeshift Raft". A song that asks if those seeking freedom need drown, then ponders the inevitability of continuous wars. It praises the America of Allen Ginsberg before a few bars of yodelling. It ends by eulogises fingers, guitars and songs of love. Something for everyone then. The song is accompanied by a video created by Martin Carr. They love being who they are and they love this album and they hope you will find time to dance till all the stars come down with them.

Jimmy Rowles was accomplished in jazz settings from solo to small ensembles, and a highly sought-after accompanist by top female vocalists. He was so proficient at the latter that some dubbed him the Gerald Moore of jazz. No matter what the setting, Rowles was always at the top of his game. This album was cut in 1994 at a time when the pianist was suffering from on-and-off health problems.

Play is a 1990 compilation CD released as a sampler for PolyGram. It is called Play because the songs are meant to be played at record stores in order for customers to be influenced to make a purchase. The disc features then-new music from Hothouse Flowers, Tony! Toni! Tone!, The Mission UK, The Fall, The Wonder Stuff, Mother Love Bone and more. A nice look back at the beginning of the 1990's.
