Deben Bhattacharya (1921–2001) was a field recordist, poet, filmmaker, musicologist and amateur ethnomusicologist, based in Calcutta and Paris. Highly influential, it would not be too bold a stretch to say that his work shaped how we listen to the world: he produced a vast number of LPs, CDs, videos and radio shows of traditional music from India, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe from 1953 until his death in 2001.

On the already 9th studio album ‘Faderhead’ set the benchmark a bit higher. Threatening, dark and extremely thoughtful I would describe the first impression. On the longplayer ‘Night Physics’, ‘Faderhead’ has reached a new level of evolution.

My introduction to 'Desert Songs'
I first became interested in the literary heritage of the Middle East when I read that the European troubadours shared a tradition with Bedouin poet travellers. I'd always been intrigued by the Troubadours – the freedom and romanticism. Reading more about the era and examples of poetry – in English translations – I was struck by the resonance of their themes and timeless connection with contemporary thought and life experience.

He was a singer, a rebel, and a voice of the people. With a banjo and a selfless dedication to justice and the transformative power of music, he inspired all of humanity to question the status quo, to sing out and speak up against oppression wherever they witnessed it.

When The Zombies' original members realized that it was 40 years since the release of their seminal album `Odessey & Oracle', they thought that it would be a great idea to get together again for a special anniversary celebration. So on the 7th, 8th and 9th of March 2008, along with Rod and Colin's touring band (also known as The Zombies), they played three sell-out gigs at the Shepherds Bush Empire in London to an ecstatic reception. Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone, Chris White and Hugh Grundy took to the stage and played the album for the first time ever. To capture the real sound of this iconic album, with its double-tracked harmonies, overdubbed keyboards and percussion. This double disc set is a recording made of the entire concert on the night of March 8th 2008. Disc One features 14 tracks (the whole album) whilst Disc Two features Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent solo recordings plus other Zombies recordings.
