The complete - and previously unheard - early work of a later celebrated jazz guitarist recorded in first-class audio quality and produced by SWF-Landesstudio Rheinland-Pfalz in Mainz, as it was then known. It is fascinating to discover the sources from which Volker Kriegel - just 19 years old at the time of the first session - derived inspiration for some of the best known jazz standards: John Lewis' Django, a relaxed Thelonious Monk (Rythm-A-Ning), Autumn Leaves, Norwegian Wood, and other down-tempo numbers of the bop and beat era before discovering his personal laid-back style.

He was impressed by artists such Jean Michel Jarre, Mike Oldfield, Kraftwerk. Also Ben Liebrand influenced him deeply. In 1991 he discovered electronic styles like trance, rave and techno. ( L.A. Style - James Brown Is Dead; Guru Josh - Infinity) He is also immensely passionate about ambient-chill music. At this time he focused on the soften part of the trance and his new project "Beautiful Voices" has been a spectacular succes. Vocal jazz group founded by Hi-Lo's tenor Gene Puerling, first recorded in 1972 with the Oscar Peterson Trio.

Though the Singers Unlimited have not recorded a new album since 1980's "Easy To Love," their popularity continues unabated. Their fourteen album catalog, recorded for Germany's MPS records and now available as the "Magic Voices" collection, reflects the best of what the human voice is capable. The arrangements that member Gene Puerling wrote for the group were nothing short of a revelation-and the group's use of studio multi-tracking (a burgeoning technology) developed a sound never heard before. The name "Singers Unlimited" is forever inscribed in the annals of vocal jazz, and deservedly so.

Avec Gospel Journey, Faada Freddy – moitié du groupe de hip hop sénégalais Daara J Family - entame une carrière solo d’un bon pas. Entre gospel, soul et rythm’n’blues, le chanteur évoque « le peuple africain qui a envie de se libérer des préjugés qui lui collent à la peau ». Fait uniquement de voix, chœurs et percussions corporelles, cet opus rappelle peut-être quelques idées de Bobby Mc Ferrin mais les met en œuvre de façon bien personnelle. Produit par Malick Ndiaye (Ayo, Imany), Gospel Journey révèle un très bel enregistrement qu’il serait dommage de résumer au style Pop, tant il s’ouvre sur divers genres, revisités à la manière du chanteur sénégalais.
