The first-ever compilation of χαβάγιες ("havagies"), the nearly forgotten Hawaiian-influenced music of 1930s Greece, focused on the compositions of Kostas Bezos and his ensemble White Birds. A world-class slide guitarist, political cartoonist and sleepless Bohemian, Kostas Bezos created some of the most unique music of any era: surrealist guitar portraits blending Athens and Honolulu, haunting tropical serenades, wild acoustic orchestras, and heartbreaking steel guitar duets. Incredibly, this is the same musician responsible for the legendary "Kostis" rebetika recordings (see A. Kostis "The Jail's a Fine School".

Beginning as a no wave band with an equally volatile lineup and sound, Chromatics evolved into one of the most influential electro-pop acts of the 2000s and 2010s. On albums such as Night Drive and Kill for Love, the group's evocative mix of Italo-disco, post-punk, and '80s pop was glamorous, heartbroken, and utterly distinctive.

Heroines of Love and Mourning ", this is the perfect characteristic of this album, which soprano Ruby Hugues, the cellist Mime Yamahiro Brinkmann and the lutenist Jonas Nordberg dedicate to a fine handful of works in which the ladies sing both, other. The women appearing before our ears throughout this programme range from the Virgin Mary and Dido, queen of Carthage, to Shakespeare’s Desdemona and the unfortunate Anne Boleyn, waiting for her execution in the Tower of London in 1536. But the disc also features four other heroines – the Italian composers Claudia Sessa, Francesca Caccini, Lucrezia Vizzana and Barbara Strozzi.

The album was produced by Louis Newman. It opens with the sultry title cut, "Once Upon a Time in the West," which features her crisp and crystalline voice. It is followed by the sassy and mid-tempo "Blue Flame" and the bluesy ballad "Cadillac." "Wing and a Feather" features the gorgeous harmonies of country darling Ashley Monroe. "Love Birds" has a stirring melody to it, and it continues with the spitfire "Ain't All That Bad." Sebastian's vocals are poetic and heavenly on "Cry to Jackson," where the listener can recall veteran country star Pam Tillis. Equally impressive is the acoustic ballad "Losers and Lashes," which is pure country. Her single "Quicksand" is another gem, as Digital Journal reported.
