The composers Maia Cabeza unites on her debut CD come from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. She traces the musical traditions that flowed into the compositions of the 1920s and 1930s by Janácek, Veress, Holliger, Enescu, Schulhoff and Bartók. The exception in this picture is Heinz Holliger's sparkling Spring Dance of 2001: a very unique approach to the musical heritage of his native Switzerland. The Canadian-American violinist Maia Cabeza, winner of the 2018 Johann Sebastian Bach Competition, together with Zoltán Fejérvári on the piano, makes these different influences delicately audible.

Making his technical debut as a songwriter (technical in that his prose poems serve as a lyric source on several tracks), Art Garfunkel takes top billing in what actually qualifies as a collaboration with two other singer/songwriters, Nashville's Buddy Mondlock and L.A.-based Maia Sharp; producer/songwriter Billy Mann plays an essential creative role as well. For all the diverse input, this remains a Garfunkel project at heart.

Janet’s new CD “Voices of Women” has just been released by Atoll Records. It includes three song cycles for female voice, a setting of the Magnificat, and the work that gives the whole CD its name – “Voices of Women”. In this work, Janet sets to music words spoken and written by a range of iconic women including Ākenehi Tōmoana, Kate Sheppard and Jacinda Ardern.The project brought together a team of exceptional female musicians including one of New Zealand’s few professional marimba players, Yoshiko Tsuruta, well-known percussionist Rachel Thomas, violinist Maia Dean Martin, and leading pianists Katherine Austin, Rachel Fuller, Noelle Dannenbring and Maria Mo.
