Originally intended as a MINI DATAFILE, author Gregory Alegi has unearthed so much new material on the M.5 'fighter boat' that only the full DATAFILE treatment can do this fascinating machine full justice. With over 100 Illustrations, the majority previously unpublished, detailed narrative and colour notes with revised GAs from Ian Stair, this fine study of the colourful Macchi M.5 is a worthy addition to our growing list of Italian subjects. Never before has this flying boat been so accurately and comprehensively documented - the sheer variety of sparkling colour schemes alone should put it at the top of every modeller's new project list.

The MC.202 was the equivalent of the Spitfire Mk.V and was completely superior to the Kittyhawk and Hurricanes in which it encountered in North Africa and elsewhere. The MC.202 was likely the best fighter in the Axis inventory in 1941-42 and was flown by many Regia Aeronautica aces including Teresio Martinoli and Franco Lucchini. The MC.205 was the next development aircraft in the series that had begun with the MC.200. The plane retained all the agility of the earlier aircraft but was equipped with a more powerful engine, the DB.605 manufactured under license by FIAT. About 262 aircraft were manufactured.

After devoting much of its efforts to winning many of the Schneider Trophy Races, AerMacchi and it's chief designer Mario Castoldi produced their first monoplane fighter, the C.200. With finger light handling and its unique wing design, the C.200 was an extremly maneuverability aicraft with good speed. The MC.200 was consistently able to get on the tail of Hurricanes, P-40's and early Spitfires.
