“I grew up in the jazz Manouche circles, which are dominated by swarms of guitarists – it’s not always easy to fit in as a singer! Most of the music has no lyrics, and the melodies are often too guitaristique to be sung. The microcosm fascinated me and I too wanted to participate in the Django repertoire… I saw only one option: I had to write my own lyrics, tell my own stories, reinvent his music in my own image.”
Wawau Adler calls his new album "I Play With You." He changes playfully between the Selmer No. 828, a classical guitar from the forties, over modern types to the electric guitar. Steeve LAFFONT grew up in France in a family of Sinti , originally from Italy, now based in Perpignan. Self-taught, he began playing piano at 6 years and his uncle Mario PETRICCIOLI bought him his first guitar three years later. That’s when the passion for music and especially for his new instrument actually begins. It discovers and learns a natural harmonies and rhythms of the original music of Django Reinhardt when he then added his compositions, influenced by the rhythms of modern jazz. It’s only a few years, a level that allows him to play during musical evenings with family and friends with the greatest jazz manouche: Tchavolo Schmitt, Bireli Lagrene, Raphal Fays, Stochelo Rosenberg and Boy Bauer.
