Mark–Almond were an English band of the late 1960s and early 1970s, who worked in the territory between rock and jazz. In 1970 Jon Mark and Johnny Almond formed Mark-Almond (also occasionally referred to as The Mark-Almond Band). The melancholy tones of saxophonist Almond were an integral part of the group's sound, and Almond frequently played flute as well, including the bass flute. Characterized by a blend of blues and jazz riffs, latin beats, and a mellow rock aesthetic, and in contrast to the heavier guitar-driven rock of his contemporaries, composer and band leader Mark worked at producing warm and melodic works.

Alun Davies (born 1943) is a Welsh guitarist, studio musician, recording artist, and composer who rose to fame primarily with his supporting guitar work and backing vocals as accompanist for English musician Cat Stevens, from early 1970 to 1977. Alun Davies' only solo album as of 2008 was Daydo, released in 1972. Much of the material was written as early as 1970, but this was just prior to Davies' introduction, backup work, and devoted friendship with Cat Stevens. With the intention of releasing the material as soon as possible, Davies bemoaned the fact that he had so little time to debut his own work, but stated that he had no regrets. The LP at last was released in the summer of 1972.

Riff Raff, co-led by Brit keyboard boss Tommy Eyre and bassist Roger Sutton, grew out of the Mark-Almond Band. Before meeting Jon Mark, Eyre had played with Joe Cocker's Grease Band. The pair decided to form solo projects while with Mark-Almond, and recruited vocalist Alan Marshall, drummer Kenny Slade, and guitarist Martin Ball. This lineup was never formalized, though they had recorded demos and even finished some tracks for a debut album for Richard Branson. The amalgam of jazz, rock, and soul was intoxicating and was a fine emotional alternative to the Canterbury bands, which were much more concerned with complexity than groove. The music included here features all seven of those original finished tracks as well as the first four recordings of the final band lineup after Marshall and Slade left.

17 track Best Of from the lead singer of Bronski Beat and the Communards. Both of those groups are represented here as well as some of Jimmy's solo songs. Jimmy's distinctive falsetto voice could not be mistaken for any other. Bronski Beat had six UK hits but only the first four are included here. The four that made it are 'Small Town Boy', an unlikely medley (with Marc Almond) of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love', 'Johnny Remember Me', 'Why' and 'It Ain't Necessarily So'. The Communards had a UK #1 hit with 'Don't Leave Me This Way'. Other hits included here include 'Never Can Say Goodbye', 'So Cold The Night', 'You Are My World', 'Disenchanted', 'Tomorrow', 'For A Friend' and 'There's More To Love'. Jimmy had five UK hits without either group, the biggest of which was 'You Make Me Feel Mighty Real'. A cover of 'To Love Somebody' (Bee Gees) made the UK Top Ten. 'Comment Te Dire Adieu', 'Read My Lips' and 'Run From Love' round out this collection. Despite the omission of one major UK hit and one minor hit, this is an excellent collection of music by one of the best British pop singers of the '80s.
