Mark Schultz

During an impressive period—2005 through 2012—Mark Schultz turned his attention to producing a body of personal works and private commissions. The results, collected in the five Various Drawings volumes, focused on subjects about which Schultz feels most passionate. Among them are characters and tableaux pulled from mythology, science-fantasy and pulp adventure, featuring steely warriors and femme fatales—his popular pulpette women included. Schultz's Xenozoic world is profusely explored through a series of dynamic compositions with his protagonists, Jack and Hannah, placed in a variety of impossibly dangerous situations. In addition to his self-generated pieces, there are many examples of Schultz's commercial works done for comics, film and books, as well as renderings of newly discovered dinosaurs and more.

Adopted at the age of two weeks old, singer/songwriter Mark Schultz grew up in Colby, KS. Although he enjoyed great success in high school sports such as track and football, Schultz' musical talents outshone his athletic strengths. He soon moved to Nashville; however, instead of fulfilling his aspirations of a career in music, Schultz ended up in youth ministry. His position as a youth leader at First Presbyterian Church served to inspire the young songwriter, causing him to write songs about people in the congregation. Weekly concerts featuring Schultz drew crowds. After continued concerts, including a benefit concert he organized at the Ryman Auditorium, Schultz signed with Myrrh Records and released his self-titled debut album in 2000.

Carbon 2 follows its predecessor by three years, and in those years Mark’s work has become something more solid, and at times almost sculptural, as he continues to refine his attempts to put to paper the visions he sees in his head. Featuring conceptual studies as well as finishes, Carbon 2 gives us a look into that process.
