Sean Noonan's Brewed By Noon - Stories To Tell (2007) Music

These stories might be told, but don't think they're easy listening, by any means. Working with a core band that includes Marc Ribot, drummer Sean Noonan doesn't make his music particularly accessible. "Scabies," for example, churns out sharp shards of guitar that are so dense as to be almost impenetrable. But it's an album with many facets, like the Africanisms of "Massana Cisse" or the vocals of Abdoulaye Diabate, who's outstanding on his three cuts, or "Noonbrew" with the delicious voice of Susan McKeown. It's a record that very much pursues Noonan's vision, complex and twisted as it is, and there can be beauty in the chaos, as in the guitar/viola duo on "Dr. Sleepytime," possibly the scariest lullaby ever recorded. Definitely not for casual listeners, it's a record that demands attention from your ears and brain, one that falls outside any definition – which is a good thing.

In the spring of 2015 Wayne Horvitz, with longtime Seattle collaborators Eric Eagle and Geoff Harper, spent a most of a week in residence at SnowGhost Studios in Whitefish, Montana. SnowGhost is a state-of-the-art 21st century studio with great acoustic spaces, and a meticulously maintained Steinway B grand piano. Owner Brett Allen, who has a keen interest in experimental music, engineered the sessions. In exchange, at the end of the residency the trio gave an intimate private concert for Allen’s invitedguests, a group of audiophile engineers and developers.

“"Laptop is a musical instrument" - this is the main idea of the "Improvisation" albums and this is the way Majento and N-Tonio do it making experiments playing this instrument. There is no established set of rules how to play laptop there is no laptop playing school. Every musician develop his own technique. Some of them use already existing programms (Ableton Live, Propellerhead Reason, Audio Mulch), some of them create their own (Max/MSP, Native Reaktor). Laptop expressing possibilities are almost infinite while improvisation fully reflects musician abilities and possibilities of the instrument.
Monthly Majento & N-Tonio propose new version of "Improvisation" absolutely for free aiming to attract more and more new musician's attention to the instrument and as a result to create and develop a laptop playing school. Majento & N-Tonio realy hope that soon laptop will be rather customary not only for rock bands but for symphonic orchestra too."
