"Closer" is the 10th album by singer Melba Moore, released in 1980. It was also her final album on Epic Records before moving to EMI in 1981. Melba recorded "Closer", co-producing it along with Bruce Hawes, Victor Carstarphen and Beau Huggins. An obvious hit of the album was the dance track "Something On Your Mind", although it was not released as a single. The record was recorded in Sigma Sound Studio, and this implies sound quality, not to mention the vocal parts of the performers who recorded backing vocals for this album. Among them, we can name at least these few names - Luther Vandross, Ullanda McCullough, Brenda White and Tawatha Agee (Mtume). Oddly enough, the album did not hit the charts and its successes were very modest.

Lafayette has worked in well-established downtown clubs like the Blue Note, Sweet Basil, and Fat Tuesday’s, since his arrival as a young musician in 1985. He earned a reputation that led to a record deal with Muse Records, resulting in his debut album, aptly titled Lafayette Is Here. A second Muse recording, Happy Together, starred The Lafayette Harris Trio plus Melba Moore.

Born in 1945 into a musical family, the daughter of big band leader and saxophonist, Teddy Hill and R&B singer Bonnie Davis, Beatrice Melba Smith adopted the stage name Melba Moore. Although she loved to act her first love was music and she later decided to focus on a recording career. During the time of releasing her first two albums Melba Moore picked up a Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist. 1978 saw the release of Melba Moore’s first album for Epic Records, MELBA. The production duties were left in the extremely capable hands of Philly Soul production duo, McFadden & Whitehead.
