Special 2009 four CD edition of this long-deleted 64 track anthology from John 'Johnny Rotten' Lydon and PIL. Rising from the ashes of the Sex Pistols in 1978, Public Image Limited were by definition one of the pioneers of Post-Punk groups. with John Lydon's vocals complemented by ex-Clash guitarist Keith Levene, drummer Jim Walker and the now legendary Jah Wobble on bass, the group created a more Dub-orientated style and their innovative music earned them five UK Top 20 Singles and five UK Top 20 Albums in a period stretching over three decades. Originally released in 1999, the Plastic Box provides a complete overview of the band's work, including tracks taken from every album together with John Peel sessions, remixes and much more. The first two discs cover the band's early years while the remaining two discs spotlight their mid and later periods. An excellent look into the music of a band that continues to defy categorization. After the end of the Sex Pistols Johnny Rotten (or John Lydon) had built a new career with his band Public Image Limited. The early albums, "First Issue", "Metal Box" and "Flowers Of Romance" are now seen as classics of post punk and the highlights of these albums are in this unique Rockpalast concert. The experimental mix of dub, punk, noise and dance still sounds fresh. Included is a rare performance of the Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK" as well as a backstage interview and rehearsal footage.

Public Image Ltd (also known as PiL) are an English post-punk band formed by singer John Lydon. Lydon emerged after the break-up of the Sex Pistols with PiL's Public Image: First Issue (1978). The new band had a more experimental sound than the Pistols: a "droning, slow-tempo, bass-heavy noise rock, overlaid by Lydon's distinctive, vituperative rant". Their early work is often regarded as some of the most challenging and innovative music of the post-punk era. Their 1979 album Metal Box was ranked number 469 on Rolling Stone magazine's 2003 list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The NME described PiL as "arguably the first post-rock group".

25th anniversary reissue of this unique coming together of Brian Eno and ex-Public Image Limited bass player Jah Wobble, also featuring Jaki Liebezeit from Can on drums. Starting life as the soundtrack to Derek Jarman’s 'Glitterbug', Eno passed stereo mixes of the film cues to Wobble who embellished and built upon them to construct the 'Spinner' tracks. The resulting fusion combines icy ambience with a kind of psychogeographical funk.

Depending on what period of the band's career you choose, Public Image Ltd. (officially abbreviated PiL) could sound like bass-heavy post-punk thunder (1978's Public Image: First Issue), an inspired fusion of Krautrock and dub (1979's Metal Box), muscular and expertly executed alternative rock (1986's Album), or polished but angular dance-friendly pop (1989's 9), with many other stops along the way.
