The psychedelic influenced Eight Miles High album - originally released in 1969 as The Golden Earring - is the band's only album featuring drummer Sieb Warner. The record was taped over a period of two weeks in August/September 1969 at the legendary Olympic Sound Studios in London. This expanded edition also contains the "Another 45 Miles" 7-inch single, including the B-side "I Can't Get A Hold On Her", plus the edited mono version of "Eight Miles High" that was released as a promotional only single in the United States. In addition, the DVD features the long-awaited restored version of the hour-long documentary that filmmaker Mat van Hensbergen taped during the band's tour in the Summer of 1969, as well as the following recording sessions at Olympic. The documentary has been restored from the original 16 mm film reels and contain English subtitles.

Recorded when she was at the peak of popularity, a result of her stint with Chick Corea's Return to Forever, 500 Miles High presents Flora Purim in concert at the 1974 Montreux Jazz Festival. Accompanied by an all-star band including guitarist David Amaro, flutist Herbie Mann, keyboardist Pat Rebillot, bass legend Ron Carter, and husband (and star in his own right) Airto Moreira on drums, vocals, and various percussion, the Brazilian songstress delivers a fiery performance that must have been a joy to behold. Strictly speaking, this is really more of a band album than a Flora Purim album, as Airto and the guys are featured for extended instrumental romps.

The most underrated recordings of George Shearing's career were his trio sets made in the mid-'70s for MPS after the breakup of his popular Quintet. This particular LP is one of three that feature the brilliant pianist in a drumless trio with guitarist Louis Stewart and bassist Niels Pedersen. The music is essentially bop-based with just one newer song (an interesting version of Chick Corea's "500 Miles High") included among the nine standards. The more memorable selections are "I Wished on the Moon", "Old Folks" and "Here's That Rainy Day". Tasteful performances with plenty of subtle surprises.

Eight Miles High (2007)
Achim Bornhak's movie focuses on the restless life of Uschi Obermaier, the icon of the 1968 movement in Germany and groupie. At the age of 16, Uschi is bored by her job in a photo lab, but soon becomes the "it girl" of Munich's club scene. When she gets to know Rainer Langhans, they move to Berlin and live in "Kommune 1", the first politically-motivated commune in Germany. While the other occupants claim she isn't political enough, Uschi just wants to have fun, works as fashion model and leads international music stars in temptation.

4 CD Set, 32 tracks, 36-page booklet. Documentation in German, English, French, Spanish and Italian. Ice and fire they were: a two-horned paradox. Offstage, one was quiet, pensive, self-critical to a fault, practising obsessively. The other was cocksure, demanding; running with friends rather than running scales. But on the bandstand and on record, they reversed roles. John Coltrane, with saxophone in hand, became the unbridled one: long-winded, garrulous. When Miles Davis raised his trumpet, he played the sensitive introvert, blowing brief, hushed tones, exuding vulnerability. Their names now command reverence, and rarely induce less than eulogy. The music they created together during an almost five-year union still resonates, entrances, influences and sells, sells, sells.

In 1985, Miles Davis shocked the music world by moving from Columbia to Warner Bros.. He immediately started working on an album called "Perfect Way" after a tune by Scritti Politti, later renamed "Tutu" by producer Tommy LiPuma. When "Tutu" (a tribute to Desmond Tutu) was released in 1986, it re-ignited Miles Davis’ career, crossing over into the rock and pop markets and winning him two Grammy Awards. A definitive collection of the later part of Miles Davis’ work, fully remastered, from the Warner Bros studio albums "Tutu", "Amandla" and "Doo-Bop", the "Dingo" and "Siesta" soundtracks, live recordings with Quincy Jones, and the likes of Kenny Garrett, Foley and Adam Holzman.
