En 1964, les plages de Brighton, en Angleterre, sont le théâtre d'un gigantesque affrontement qui oppose plusieurs milliers de jeunes. Les Mods se battent contre les rockers pour des histoires de vêtements, de territoires ou de goûts musicaux. L'affaire pourrait se réduire à un fait de hooliganisme, mais l'ampleur même de la confrontation incite à plus d'attention. Ce qui oppose profondément ces adolescents, ce sont deux façons radicalement différentes de voir la vie…

In Liverpool there's a gang war between the mods (who dress in the latest fashions and styles) and the rockers (who are more into the '50s "greaser" look). Rickym, the son of a wealthy businessman, is a mod guitar player, and in a gang fight with some rockers, his girlfriend is killed. He leaves Liverpool for the continent and winds up in Rome, where he becomes involved with his father's mistress.

Are games worthy of academic attention? Can they be used effectively in the classroom, in the research laboratory, as an innovative design tool, as a persuasive political weapon? Game Mods: Design Theory and Criticism aims to answer these and more questions.

A trip back to the days when 'style wars' were just that - violent confrontations about the clothes you wore. Spring 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the bank holiday 'battles of the beaches', when hundreds of mods and rockers flocked to seaside resorts on scooters and motorbikes in search of thrills and spills.
