The Moody Blues With the release of 1967's Days of Future Passed, the Moody Blues left behind their R&B origins and emerged as pioneers of Britain's emerging art rock sound. A richly imagined concept album that fused classical music with rock, Days of Future Passed arrived less than six months after the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to an audience already primed to embrace such a progressive work. What's more, it was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to its dreamy singles "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon," establishing the Moodies as both a commercially viable and deeply creative unit. Over subsequent releases like 1968's In Search of the Lost Chord and 1969's On the Threshold of a Dream, they developed into a five-man orchestra of rock mystics, creating music that was challenging enough to please the psychedelic crowd, but still accessible to mainstream radio listeners.

Highlights also include selections from Hayward/Lodges wonderful "Bluejays" albim as well as Hayward solo works. Disc four is where keyboardist extroadinaire stopped working with the Moody Blues, marking a significant loss in the groups etheral and spiritual sound, however, the magic still continues.

When the Moody Blues were due for the box set treatment, it would have been uncharacteristic for the production to be lacking in overstated grandiosity. On that count, this four-CD retrospective does not disappoint, including the bulk of their most famous work (from their 1967-1972 albums), lots from their later records and side projects, and a few rarities. There's not a great deal of reason for anyone but fanatics to fork out for this package; the albums (which were specifically programmed to work as separate entities) remain readily available, there's too much late stuff and Hayward/Blue Jays tracks, and there's nothing from the Denny Laine era. The three non-LP 1967 cuts that open the set are available on the double import LP A Dream, an album that also has the additional 1967 B-side "Really Haven't Got the Time," which somehow doesn't make it onto Time Traveller. As consolation, the liner notes are pretty good and extensive, and the first printings of the box include a bonus disc of a 1992 concert with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. ~Allmusic

The Moody Blues are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1964, initially consisting of keyboardist Mike Pinder, multi-instrumentalist Ray Thomas, guitarist Denny Laine, drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The group came to prominence playing rhythm and blues music. They made some changes in musicians but settled on a line-up of Pinder, Thomas, Edge, guitarist Justin Hayward, and bassist John Lodge, who stayed together for most of the band's "classic era" into the early 1970s.

The Moody Blues classic 1967 album Days Of Future Passed is regarded as one of the foundation stones of the progressive rock genre. In 2017, the band headed out on the album's 50th Anniversary Tour including the wonderful show captured at the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts in Toronto accompanied by a full orchestra. The concert begins with the band by themselves performing a selection of classic Moody Blues tracks before they are joined by the orchestra to perform Days Of Future Passed in its entirety plus a couple of fantastic encore tracks. This is without doubt the definitive live version of this much loved album and will be treasured by fans of The Moody Blues for years to come.

The famous Red Rocks venue plays host to The Moody Blues on this DVD that offers a standard full-frame transfer. The English soundtrack does a fine job of capturing the music. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it quite difficult to recommend this disc to anyone who is not already a fan of the band. Some of the songs performed include "Nights in White Satin," "Days of Future Past," and "Tuesday Afternoon."
The Moody Blues, as they came to be known, made their debut in Birmingham in May of 1964, and quickly earned the notice and later the services of manager Tony Secunda.
