Four guys from Anekdoten and Landberk get together to make an album. All four are credited with Mellotron in the liner notes, even the drummer. They play music borrowed from horror movie soundtracks. The cover of the album shows the band walking amidst blood red skulls against a black background. If you're guessing that the album is gonna be heavy and dark, you're right. However, there's also a decent amount of bittersweet melodies and enough musical complexity to keep it interesting.
The career of this Swedish band spans over 12 albums released between 1988 and 2020. Their music has evolved from smooth, floydian like to dark, almost Crimsonesque proportions over the years. Their style could generally be described as heavy, complex neo-prog with a strong emphasis on melody. The band was founded by ex-Von Lyx guitarist Hansi Cross whose highly emotional guitar work (sometimes reminiscent of Steve Hackett's) gives the band a sound approaching that of It Bites. As for Cross' vocals, they are slightly reminiscent of Dave Gilmour's. The heavier sound of their later albums will appeal more to fans of Anekdoten, Landberk and Morte Macabre.
Paatos is a Swedish progressive rock band that was formed in 2000 by Reine Fiske (followed up by Peter Nylander), and Stefan Dimle (both previous members of Landberk and current members of Morte Macabre), Petronella Nettermalm, Ricard Nettermalm (Puckspony) and Johan Wallen. The band has many influences. The sum of Sigur Ros, Bjork, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Can, early Bowie, and many more, plus the inevitable affect of the Swedish constant state of melancholy and lack of sun during a better part of the year, creates its own voice. The five members of Paatos have varied musical backgrounds which they bring into the studio and rehearsals when the music is composed. The beauty is that this creates music that none of the members could accomplish on their own, as well as being a very unifying process for the band…
This 50-CD collection of analogue albums aims to represent the heyday of Philips’ passion for great natural sound – the Stereo Years. There was a firm belief within the label’s team that recording technique was there to serve the music - the Musicians had their own views about how any given piece should be interpreted and how it should sound; the recording team’s job was to grasp that vision and make it a reality. This recording philosophy, combined with great artistry and visionary repertoire policy, created a special chapter in the history of classical music recordings that still inspires artists, sound engineers and collectors alike.
